That seems to be part of the backlash here.
Not to defend it... but some of the new RE's and DMC5 had similar stuff. Could buy the currencies and items, etc. It's ridiculous, but from what I've heard from a friend this is all in game stuff and non-paying players aren't really being penalized/missing anything. So this just looks like a way to pay for Journalist mode. lol, still it's incendious and you'd think they would learn from someone like FromSoftware who (hold the line!!!) doesn't do this crap and just got rich for life with Elden Ring being a full game. Heaven forbid!
My biggest concern is seeing how bad the performance is on PC. Guess whatever I read about it being made for PC first and running fine, was a very isolated case of some random review or something.
Ah well I need to save money anyways and take this time to hit up my backlog. Maybe DD2 will be fixed a year from now.

As expected of a 9th gen game. Stuff like this makes it easy for me to stick to my guns of 8th gen cutoff.

Visions definitely looks promising. This may be the first legit great Mana entry since 1999's Legend of Mana. SQEX is saying it'll release in the west this summer, for PS4/5, XSX/S, Windows, and STEAM. I'm guessing SQEX is planning to release some kind of special version for the Switch 2, ergo no Switch variant out the gate. I'll be getting this one on PS4.

I also don't know if this is recent news or I forgot, but them getting Hiroki Kikuta back for the music is amazing to my ears as well. No doubt I have a huge bias for the two SNES games and his music amplifies that.
The Trials of Mana remake still looks great too and seems like it helped revive the series again.

The Trials of Mana remake still looks great too If you're talking about this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trials_of_Mana_(2020_video_game) yeah it looks potentially good. Promising enough I bought it physically for PS4. Kind of silly that the digital leased-you-don't-actually-own-it Steam version is $49.99 right now, but you can buy it physically for $30 new for Switch and $22 new for PS4 off Amazon as of this writing.

Yeah, I've played a little bit of Trials, seems pretty fun from the little amount I've played. You can tell it's a lower-budget title, but it's not as low-budget as the Secret of Mana remake, and of course it remasters the gameplay style completely. I'm looking forward to this new one.

Yeah I got it awhile back on PS4 myself, maybe that's why with a huge price spike on Steam. Typical Square...

In my experience, everything Square Enix is overpriced on Steam. Even their sales keep the numbers jacked up. It's not ideal - I'd totally double-dip on a few things I have to play on Steam Deck, but the prices are too high for it.

It's often I see digital games costing more than their physical versions. Players literally paying a premium for immediate gratification. I pity the fool.
