Yeah they even ripped off Vyse's outfit. Similary type of blue coat and red scarf. The switched the pants and boots' colors. Horrible voice casting, as usual with RPGs in English where the lead always has to sound like the world's weakest weenie. This is legitimately one of the reasons I stop at the 32-bit generation for most RPGs. That and the writing suddenly becoming bloated and terrible.

devs just don't care anymore One does wonder if punting the performance off on the customer's hardware is a cost saving measure. Takes time to optimize code. Time that could be spent working on the next game. Not saying that's an ethical approach, but I could see the logic behind it from the dev/pub perspective. Of course in the long run it cheapens the brand for potential PC buyers and builds hesitancy. That does remind me of another point I wanted to make, this was quite a fast turn around to get on PC (both Steam and EGS on the same day), compared to the Square of a few years ago. Going off the news a few months back of them "aggressively" pursuing launching games on all platforms possible now, they weren't kidding. So that's a a bit amusing, but then yeah one has to wonder if they rushed this project a bit. Someone needs some money huh?
Just extra weird since I think it's the FF14 engine from the FF14 team, who have been working on that almost exclusively on PC for like a decade now. How does this make sense... buuuuuut from what I've gathered over the years, Square has a very hit or miss track record with their PC ports. Kind of baffling since most other big Japanese publishers aren't running into these problems as much anymore. I guess that team maybe developed the game solely around the PS5, in the midst of Square realizing maybe not doing multiplatform releases thesedays isn't sustainable anymore.

Ah hell yeah the old school mystery VNs keep coming. Looks like this is gonna be a full ass retail game. List price is $44.99. Doubt we'll have a physical release in the US though. It's a remake; I've played the Famicom version.

Wait, isn't that one of the pre-Dragon Quest Yuji Horii games? IIRC he made two more after Portopia. Great that some version of it is being translated. It's coming on Steam as well, btw, unlike the Famicom Detective Club game. I'd play this, but that price is crazy for a game like this.
