Speaking of which, it's going to be hilarious when I beat Dragon Quest III for the umpteenth time before DQXI. Man, the Special Edition 2D town in DQ11 was made for your haha... even though I've beaten them all recently, my memory isn't the best. You probably know more of the older games by heart, so those throwbacks might be cooler for you. I dunno, I think there are limitations in that mode that make playing that way inferior. Or maybe I'm thinking of another Dragon Quest that did the same. It really is one of the best in the series - I obviously have a lot of memories tied up with it, so it's hard to split out my nostalgia from truth, but it sure seems like a lot of other folks also love it.

I'm not talking about the pure 2D mode, since you're right. The game was clearly designed around its 3D version as the primary and even does more in the battles. It'd probably be a bit odd to play DQ11 in its entirety in the 2D mode. Here's the town I'm speaking of: dragonquest.fandom.com/wiki/TickingtonSo even in a normal 3D playthrough, you go into 2D mode for this area. It's made up of a bunch of bite sized scenarios from all the other games and then the toughest end game super bosses are in this as well apparently. I don't think I bothered since I got all the achievements anyways (I also didn't finish some final tournament thing that looked brutal).

That's a lot of JRPGs for those with a lot of free time. I've beaten exactly zero of said JRPGs, so that's not me.

Just a looooooooot of games, many of which are extremely chonky. Yeah, this particular one: I'm sure it's a decent game, but if I had my druthers JRPGs would range between 20-30 hours long. For me that's the ideal length.

I keep thinking maybe that's the next big JRPG series I want to tackle, when I wrap up new first playthroughs for DQ/SMT games that I have left. But even then it's freaking daunting to look at on paper like that. I think I'd just jump around, hitting up the first installment of each saga or something. I'm kind of glad I waited so long, since the Trials in the Sky remake looks maybe better than the OG to me. But I own the original and Cold Steel 1 for now. I'm guessing this must be Falcom's golden goose nowadays, even over Ys...

New trailer for Double Dragon Revive, showing two new playable characters. This looks "OK-ish" to me. Something I'll lease on PS4 at a discount price, to play co-op with somebody someday. Current release date is just "2025".

Must be the new one that some of the original creators/devs were saying was an embarrassment to the IP, essentially.
Maybe the gameplay is cool. But aesthetically it definitely looks about as generic as it gets.
