That's a good point on the 360/PS3 era. I was just rocking an old Dell Latitude laptop during those years. So my advanced gaming was on consoles then. I should remember that I spent double on my PC than I did on the PS4 as well. To be fair... But yeah, I say all this as someone who still likes console gaming more in ways to be honest. I'll probably always favor the TV+controller experience a bit more. I just hope the PS5 will really wow me and feel pretty advanced. Since I didn't really get that vibe with the PS4. Some generations I'll buy a console (NES, Genesis, N64, Gamecube), others I've been known to buy a PC (2009 and 2019 so far). I don't really take a side in that rivalry. XD

I just hope the PS5 will really wow me and feel pretty advanced. I believe that the PS5's proprietary memory/data transfer architecture is going to be really impressive, when utilized fully by first party developers, for PS5 exclusive games. Unfortunately it may be a while before you'll see PS5 games that truly use the technology to its fullest extent.

Yeah, I think we're going to see some lowest common denominator stuff for the most part. So most devs will improve loading times, but it won't be used for anything else except in Sony-exclusive games. I still don't think the Series X is a slouch in that department (half as fast, but 2.4 GB/s is still blazing), but I could absolutely be wrong and Sony's solution be a game-changer.

Still some of my favorite modern gaming trailers ever. While not indicative of what you go in playing Deus Ex for with the over dramatic/action slant, these trailers got me so hyped up for the releases. It's also interesting how a lot of these cinematic "cutscenes" are not even in the game either, a lot of these bits are just like a short prototype movie for the actual game. I actually kind of like that, doesn't spoil the game or how things transpire while actually playing it. Gameplay is of course always the best thing to see in action, but for announcement trailers, I still love these a lot.

Epic REALLY like the PS5. Epic Games calls the PS5 a "masterpiece of systems design" in a new interview with Official PlayStation Magazine. "The PlayStation 5 is a masterpiece of systems design," says Penwarden. "Not only is it driving a huge leap in computing and graphics performance, but it is also revolutionary in terms of storage and data compression technology, unlocking new kinds of games and experiences for players to enjoy."

First time seeing that demo now? The new Tomb Raider is looking nice... It's true though, I'm excited that devs are ultra excited for this new tech and that it'll give them new ways to build games. The engine being able to utilize resources more fluidity only when and where needed, tons of little bells and whistles like that.

First time seeing that demo now? The new Tomb Raider is looking nice... Not my first time seeing the demo, but it was related to the comments I cited, so I figured I'd include it. And yeah, that's definitely some I Can't Believe It's Not Tomb Raider right there. Crazy when you remember that the PS5 tech we're seeing demonstrated now, is just initial baby steps on the journey of devs learning how to truly utilize the PS5's slick architecture. This will be an exciting ride to watch from afar. I just hope game design evolves along with the graphics. The "gameplay" shown in that demo above was paper thin.

We finally got Halo Infinite footage... and it's *drum roll*... more Halo.
When the Xbox came out, Halo blew me away. And I had certainly experienced some PC gaming and its classics back then like Half Life 1 or whatever. I know not everyone was blown away by Halo, but I was. I saved up a full summer's worth of allowance and bought myself an Xbox, purely for Halo. I still have this Xbox and all my saves, dozens of them. I went to LAN parties and we maxed it out at 4 Xbox's with 16 players at times even. I replayed this campaign endlessly, solo and co-op, beat it on every difficulty, explored every nook and cranny...
The short version on the rest, I never got XBL for Halo 2 so that was still just a LAN party thing for me. I didn't like it as much but in retrospect, I still think it's a solid campaign (excited to play the remaster now that it's on PC sometime). Halo 3 felt like more of a return to form for me and between that and Reach, I sunk in endless hours online with friends.
Then Bungie dropped down Halo to MS, who gave it to 343... and it's just never been the same to me since. Halo 4 had an endless universe of sci-fi to explore and work with, instead it was one of the most uninspired boring plot's I've ever seen in a sci-fi action adventure of these types. I only played that campaign once. To this day, I don't even know if I'll ever care to replay it again. I didn't even bother with 5, it just looked and sounded terrible to me. Plus I fell off Xbox after the 360, with no regrets.
So here we are again, it looks like 343 is going back to the drawing board and aiming more for those Halo 1 vibes. At a glance, this certainly looks more appealing than 4-5. But I still could barely get through this trailer without getting bored and skimmed it in chunks. What I've been asking since Halo 4 dropped, should we seriously still be fighting the Covenant? I want to fight a completely new army of aliens that surprises me and has some new lore or strife with humans to delve into. I want Halo to CHANGE and evolve. MS seems utterly allergic to the idea.
Maybe I'm being unfair, but something about Halo and the faster volume output in sequels over ~three generations, I just keep wishing I could get back into it but I've been lying to myself about that for years now. I can't fake any enthusiasm for it. I'm even a formula guy that doesn't mind when sequels stick to the basics and mainly just give us new levels and some changes. Which is what Halo has basically done for two decades now, but again, there's just something weird about it compared to other modern franchises. I don't know how I would change up Halo radically, but what they're doing is so SAFE it's just so freaking boring to me.
Anyways, to be clear I was not surprised by my own reaction to this trailer today at all. It's entirely what I expected, when I wish it wasn't so. Maybe others here have some strange attachments to a series or some modern stuff that you wish would actually try harder to evolve.
But hey, if it's on PC, sure maybe I'll get it. But it's looking like it'll be pretty easy to skip Xbox again next gen at this rate.
Just had to ramble and rant. It's like a once a year thing, wishing I still loved Halo and that it was still cool.
