Well, lot of interesting and contrasting opinions. Guess I'll have to check RE6 out for myself, after Revelations. Not right away though, I need a bit of a break from RE.

MGR is probably my favorite Metal Gear game that was made post-MGS3. MGS4 always felt like Kojima slapped it together to try and kill the franchise. So much of it felt like self-parody, especially the obscene cut-scene to gameplay ratio. Easily my least favorite of the series. I did love TPP, though. I actually thought the story stuff was very satisfying on a meta-level. And it has the best sneaking mechanics with a ton of sneaking missions, which is what I always wanted from the series. Too bad about the open world, though.
Breath of the Wild is the only open world game where I didn't loathe its open world setting in recent years, come to think of it.
Speaking of MGR, Platinum Games are probably my favorite devs right now based on the past decade. Bayonetta 1-2, The Wonderful 101, MGR, Vanquish, NiEr: Automata, and Madworld are some of my favorite games from the past two generations. Hell, I even found Star Fox Zero to be a fun time to wrangle around with its experimental control scheme. I can't be more hyped for Astral Chain, which sounds pretty amazing from the previews I've read and seen.

hooplehead : Did you play the original Nier? I never want to downplay Platinum's awesomeness, but Yoko Taro and the few others from his team at Square were more than likely what really defined Automata. Platinum's production quality was there but it still felt very much like a Yoko game underneath and closer to Nier / Drakengard 3, than Platinum's own titles. It was the perfect storm for sure though, give Yoko a good team / budget and he'll make the best gold ever. I will forever think it's hilarious how much Nier Automata destroys FFXV for me personally, while it probably had like 10% of that budget and time. I'd put Platinum in my Japanese top 3 for sure though. Capcom have returned to form and are in that realm for me again. They've clearly recovered from some of their slip ups last gen and them going too hard on the "Westernization" mission. RE7, Monster Hunter World, Mega Man 11, RE2R, DMC5, the new RE Engine itself, etc, they've been killing it. Now I just wonder if Deep Down is still alive or maybe they've got a new IP cooking. But for me, the Gods of Japan right now...

As perhaps the only RE6 fan and defender that I know of, I will say that if you appreciate games like DMC or Bayonetta you may enjoy it as a spectacle action game, which it really is moreso than survival horror. It’s like the missing link between DMC and RE4. While I don’t like to parrot Youtubers for opinions, I remember this video doing a fair job of explaining why I ended up liking RE6 a fair bit. It’s not great, by any means, when compared to the likes of Vanquish or Binary Domain, but it’s a very fun action game. You're not the only one. Joe from Gamesack likes it too.

Does anyone here have any particular feelings one way or another about League of Legends? I've never played it, but I have an aversion to it because I used to have a roommate who lived an awful lifestyle. He was a really nice person, but every day he would come home from work, get in bed, and play League on his laptop until the wee hours of the night. Mountain dew bottles and pizza boxes would pile up around his living area. Then when the weekend came he would stay in bed for 48 hours and order takeout. I know it's unfair for this one guy to prejudice me against a video game I've never even tried, but I can't help it.

Breath of the Wild is the only open world game where I didn't loathe its open world setting in recent years, come to think of it. What makes BotW's open world so much better than other fantasy games with an open world? I ask, because I've not played much of the game yet myself (I own it on Wii U though). Does anyone here have any particular feelings one way or another about League of Legends? I'm not into games without a defined ending, nor online gaming at all. So a multiplayer online battle arena doesn't appeal to me personally.
I agree that is an awful lifestyle. Very unhealthy both physically and mentally.

I have a few friends with thousands of hours on Dota 2. Two with 2k and one with 4k, another with 500. Stay away from moba's...

I don't think I could ever put that sort of time into a single game, unless I knew there was money in it. (And I guess there is now, but I suspect professional gaming is a young person's game.)

I suspect professional gaming is a young person's game. The amount of time you have to spend to get that good, if spent on a different money making venture instead (say day trading), would likely net an appreciably comparable result.
