Just another example of why I hate DRM: www.dsogaming.com/news/resident-evil-village-crack-completely-fixes-its-stuttering-issues/Capcom's own DRM was making the PC version of RE8's performance suffer. When the hackers removed it, the game now runs smooth. Not the first time I've seen this happen before, won't be the last. When paying customers are getting a worse experience than the thieves, you've got a real problem. This particular game was using two separate DRM methods; Capcom’s "anti-tamper V3" and Denuvo V11. Companies will say that they know they can't keep games from being cracked, so they just try to make cracking them take longer, to widen the initial sales window. I say that people who are going to buy the game will buy it regardless. People who are going to steal the game are going to steal it regardless. DRM accomplishes absolutely nothing meaningful, and it always punishes the legitimate purchaser. In this case with crappier performance, but primarily in the realm of legacy preservation (the ability of the purchaser to play their game offline years from now, for example).

Denuvo is freaking trash. I've seen so many stories of developers eventually removing it because of the outcry and whatnot. It seriously seems worthless to dump this crap on for early adopters to deal with. I had no issues with RE8's performance but this is pretty inexcusable.

Wow that is BS. It is one of main reasons I have a difficult time buying new games. Especially for the PC.

I remember thinking, Dr Mario should have been the ultimate mobile Nintendo project. But then I never really heard any good things about it.

Not video game-related, but Apple is going to begin checking hash values for photos stored on iPhones for child abuse images. Source

Looking forward to stories of false positives causing police visits to unsuspecting Apple customers.
Slippery slope too, what's the next violation Apple will start looking towards? And how far back into their photo repositories are they going to mine images? "We see in 2009 you were smoking marijuana in a state that had not yet decriminalized the activity, we are notifying the authorities."
George Orwell had it all right, just the date was wrong, he should have called his book 2024.

That's always a bummer. I have a few "boxed" download games, and while I'm sort of okay with it if it's cheap or the only way I can get it, I can't fathom why this couldn't have been handled differently unless Doom 2016 somehow takes up the whole disc.

Bizarrely there's an LRG edition of the classic Doom games. You would think Bethesda could publish the games physically themselves.

Guess they figure there won't be that much demand for it? I know LRG has a setup now where they basically don't over-order games, and Bethesda probably figured they'd partner with them and the likely limited capacity rather than do it themselves. But you're right, it's definitely a case where you'd think they'd have the resources to just self-publish.
