I'd never even heard of that one. Very interesting! And yeah, I could help out with that.

Sweet! I guess a positive from the series catching on over here is that there's actual interest in translating the other entries now.

The two Crossbell Arc PSP entries have been fully English fan translated now; Trails of Zero and Trails of Azure. As well as the standalone Nayuta: Endless Trails. For sure the Trails franchise has replaced Ys as Falcom's bread 'n butter. Although there is a new Ys title being developed.

And I'm definitely looking forward to it. Ys VIII was truly excellent.

Funny I was thinking of asking the other day if anyone here has played any of the Legend of Heroes games. They always sound fantastic, but it's a bit daunting to approach with all the sequels and huge scope. The own the first Trails in the Sky and Cold Steel on Steam, so I'll try to get to them someday...

Funny I was thinking of asking the other day if anyone here has played any of the Legend of Heroes games. I believe Sarge has beaten the sixth entry in the series, known in the west as The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. It can be tricky knowing how each game is connected. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel for instance, while being the 11th entry in the series, actually started a tetralogy that culminated with The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki IV -The End of Saga-, which will be known in the west as The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV... IF it gets released here. Hope so, as the first three Cold Steel entries were localized. I'd like to check this series out myself eventually. Though I'll start The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch. Despite the name, this was actually the third entry in the series, which began he Gagharv trilogy.

I don't know if I'd call them fantastic, but some folks really love them. I thought the battle system of Trails in the Sky was just a'ight. Really, it's more that the games are practically a visual novel in RPG form. They're extremely wordy, and fairly well written and characterized, too. They're the very definition of a slow burn.
I'll note that the first three PSP games had a different localization crew, and they tend to be a bit more terse and poorly translated. Basically, the stuff everyone loves about the series isn't really in the those entries. But I also have a friend that swears by the PSP games, so you might enjoy 'em.

Basically, the stuff everyone loves about the series isn't really in the those entries. Well the PSP versions were developed by Microvision not Falcom, and were localized by Namco not XSEED. So I can understand if their quality isn't completely top tier. However the videos I've watched of said games' gameplay, indicates to me these are competent comfort food JRPGs, very much in the classical style. They look more like 16-bit games than PSP games, so I can understand why some people weren't interested in them right out of the gate. But I'm willing to give them a try eventually. For those that don't know, these are what Sarge and I were discussing... The Heroes PSP games that received tepid reviews in the west: The Trails PSP/PC games that are popular in the west: The Trails PSP games that have full English fan translations available now:
