Xeogred It's a pretty mediocre beat-'em-up, all in all. It plays better than most western-made beat-'em-ups of the time, but the levels drag on and on.

Anyone looking for a decent side-scrolling (no Z-plane) 16-bit beat 'em up might like this:
Capcom's X-Men Mutant Apocalypse released in 1994 for SNES. I owned and beat this game back in 1999. I cannot remember how it came into my possession. I do recall enjoying the experience, that Gambit was my favorite character to use, and the game was fairly difficult.

I highly recommend this game, as well as its spiritual successor, Marvel's War of the Gems.
And yes, this game is really tough.

I started dabbling with my target for this theme today. Too early to say how I like it.

Added that one to my queue, thanks man. I'm gonna try to hit up some NES Batman tonight. I don't know if I'll be able to beat it my first go, but hopefully muscle memories will flood back.

I'd consider a safety save before Joker, 'cause otherwise you might be playing that last stage a bunch.

So the game I've started playing is Batman NES. A few observations for now:
-Batman is a ninja. I've never thought about this before, but he's a rich self-taught ninja whose gadgets are just more high-tech than other ninjas'. This may sound counterintuitive because he's usually portrayed as a pretty stiff fighter, but with all the wall-jumping in this game, he really is.
-His basic punch attack is better than I thought. It's actually quite serviceable.
-The increase in difficulty when you reach Level 3 is wild. First you have to learn how to deal with those big jumping freaks, then those robots, and there's a bunch of parts that require memorization, where everything until then could be dealt with with just caution and reflexes. And what the fuck is up with that boss? I'm baffled.
-None of the music so far is anywhere as good as the first level theme in Batman Genesis.

He is trained by ninja in some of the storylines I believe. I know what you mean though, not usually how he's interpenetrated.
Just gotta spam that last boss and pray for the best haha.
I should check out that Batman Genesis game this month.

Yeah, he's supposed to be a martial arts expert in... like, all of them or something. He's effectively a ninja. And playing something like Arkham Asylum really plays up the hiding and fear-based takedowns. It's pretty sweet.
I absolutely love the soundtrack for the NES game, though. It's fantastic all the way through. That Genesis track is a good one, though.

I absolutely love the soundtrack for the NES game, though. I agree, it's very good. Unfortunately I didn't get to play any Batman last night, I'm hoping today works out better.
