Interestingly, I've actually started to get why folks like MM3 over MM2, and I think for me it might boil down to familiarity. It's the same reason I'm starting to really like Super C at times more than the original Contra. I basically have to keep that in mind when I play them. Still, MM2 takes my top spot still because Metal Blades are just too much fun. Although it's probably worth making a run or two that minimizes use of that weapon. Also, don't play it on "Normal", that's far too easy. Actually, anayo , I don't remember, did you play through MM2 on Normal? To really match the rest of the series, you need to go with Difficult; I'm pretty sure the Japanese version didn't even have a difficulty selection. I'm also going to be really interested in your opinion of MM3 if you haven't already played it. The slide changes things a bit. And of course, MM4-6's Charge Shot completely changes the rhythm of the games.

Yep, I've always leaned towards MM3 myself. But MM2 vs MM3 is still like a 10 vs 10 in my book, haha.
It's straight up comical how overpowered the charge shot is in MM4, least they balanced it out in MM5-6 and improved the look of the blast.
Makes me wonder if there's simple hacks out there that remove the charge in 4-6. It would be so interesting to play through them without it. Though that might be tricky in some spots, like walls in MM6 that need a charged up shot when you're in armor mode.

I dunno, that Buster in MM5 has a massive hit area. I always loved blazing through that game.

I guess I'm just always thinking of the bosses specifically. I'm pretty sure the charge shot does less damage overall in MM5-6, but in MM4 it almost feels pointless to use any of of the boss weaknesses since the charge shot wrecks all of them. But yeah, the beam in MM5-6 is a little bigger and I love how it was basically the main design for the charge shot in the rest of the series, MMX, etc.

Ex That could be. I think it was also that part of the appeal of NES games is that they're hard, and those sequels felt too easy once I got used to that difficulty level. I beat them much faster than their first installments, so they felt anticlimactic. There's also a more subjective quality, I guess like when you prefer a band's earlier album rather than a later one even though both were made by the same people. It wasn't exactly an ironclad rule, though, since some sequels I liked more than their originals. Such as Super C and Mario Bros. 2. SargeYeah I played Megaman 2 on Normal. If I had been paying attention I would have chosen hard, but I just rushed through the difficulty selection screen.

Update: found my VHS tape with my playthrough of Ninja Gaiden II on it. It was hidden under a shelf in my room.

Ooh, nice. I still think it's super cool that you've been recording your runs.
