Pretty much on the same page as Sarge. And it would be more interesting if we go for non Mario / Sonic material, since people probably already have most of that covered. I don't really have any good options myself coming to mind though.

Ohhh, was this the month theme when you were planning to hit up Tomb Raider 1? I was wanting to do Tomb Raider 2 when you did that. She works for me. Tomb Raider is all about the jumping!

In all technicality, yeah, she could work. She was an unofficial mascot for the PSX.

I was thinking Spyro myself, but I want to hit up the remasters so that wouldn't count. It definitely gets a bit weirder with Sony though. They don't tend to own any of those old mascot characters, even Crash himself, but they were swimming in those licensing deals I guess. Across both the PSX and PS2 for sure. Kind of a shame the 3D platformers fell out of style for a bit last gen, so I don't think there's as much. But that's when I hit up all those PS2 games with their HD ports. I don't think I really cared for the genre much in my teen years, haha.

I think it's fair to say that mascots could represent their studio/publisher just as much as the platform they released on. I mean Bonk was originally a TG16 mascot, but then Bonk games started appearing on other platforms after that. I'm sure we'd all agree his games remained "mascot platformers" regardless of appearing on Game Boy or Super Famicom.

Yeah. Just to be clear for myself, I'm completely flexible on this definition for sure... and I get the vibe we're all on the same page. I'll just say that "platforming" is probably the first main thing that comes to mind when I think of mascot characters/games. Jumping and maneuvering obstacle course like environments is the main ingredient for me.

Calling Tomb Raider a mascot platformer is really stretching it. Going by Sarge's summary of the subgenre, she's lacking the "cutesy" factor. As a character, she hardly fits in with Sonic and Crash and so on. I'm not really invested in that theme, though, so whatever.

Maybe "cutesy" should be the ultimate deciding factor. I mean we wouldn't call say Flashback a mascot platformer, despite the fact the protagonist Conrad B. Hart starred in three Flashback related platformers. His games are just too serious and un-cutesy. So I suppose Tomb Raider is more of a "mascot action-adventure".

Actually, I also think the term "mascot" brings to mind sports mascots, which are almost always cute renditions of either animals or people with exaggerated features.
