Well, I knocked out one world of Gex, and am working through another. I can see myself actually finishing this one. Pretty solid stuff.

There's a really good interview with one of the creators of Bonk that I've posted before, but I don't think it mentions development time. But basically all those games had at least three companies working on them together, sometimes four, so I find it believable.

I made a little more progress in Gex. I beat a boss called The Flatulator, which is exactly what you'd expect. This is definitely aimed at a teen's sensibilities, with a little mildly puerile humor here and there.
One thing structurally I suspect some of you wouldn't like is the fact that progression is gated by finding remotes in stages. If you don't find them, you don't advance. You don't have to find all of them (some are in bonus stages or hidden areas that unlock extra levels), but you definitely have to find the ones it lists when you enter the stage. Your mileage may vary significantly because of this. It can be obnoxious to have to re-enter a stage and find what you missed.
On the plus side, so far, lives haven't been an issue. Careful exploration yields a ton of them, and there are a few spots where you can really rack up with a 1-up (or more like a 4-up) loop. You lose them all on a password restart, though. Honestly, it's not that big a deal.
According to the longplay I looked at, I'm about 1/3 through the game. It took me a lot longer than an hour to get there, though.

I was actually going to look into getting The Sly Collection on PS3, but what the heck?! What's up with these prices actually going up? The lowest eBay bid is already over $30 with three days remaining. Sheesh. I have the PS2 copies, and was thinking about giving the first game a whirl again. But it can get pretty chunky on frame rate at times, so I figure the remasters smooth a lot of that out. Ya, I haven't figured out the market right now. Japanese games are in weird flux as well since the Japanese postal service won't ship to US. So sellers are using DHL. This has caused some to lower prices.
Right now I'm shooting through a lot of Barrels in Super Donkey Kong.

Do any of you guys have memories of Bug for the Sega Saturn when it came out? I saw it at an in-store demo when it debuted. It probably sucks by today's standards, but from my little kid perspective in the mid 90's it looked awesome, especially with Super Nintendo kiosk nearby and no Playstation or N64 out on the market yet. I was thinking about it long after we left the store and went home.

Bug's 3D effects were impressive to me, but the best part was the race against Sonic, since I was really looking forward to Sonic on Saturn. Meanwhile, I remember thinking Clockwork Knight looked really lame. I still don't like the "living clockwork toys" concept, but I played through it maybe two years ago, and it's a surprisingly good game. I'm fairly sure it's better than Bug.

I gave the first Sly Cooper on Vita a try. I'm hooked! Finished the first world this evening.
The game sure could benefit from a better camera system at times, but it sure is fun to go through the levels collecting items to unlock new abilities and stages. I'm really digging the art direction and setting (though I'm not sold on the furry design of Sly's nemesis/love interest).
I would recommend playing it on a PS3 if possible, though, The Vita port's cutscenes and audio are very compressed, a problem that is specially acute regarding the latter. Some framerate drops here and there too. Nothing game-breaking, but why play on Vita if the PS3 has a rock solid framerate?

Why have I not heard of this until now!?!? 5 year old me would have lost his mind over this. I didn't know Clockwork Knight existed in the 90's but when I learned it existed in the 2000's I thought it looked lame too. Everyone who's actually played it says it's a lot of fun though. I kept telling myself I'd find a dirt cheap PS Vita and it never happened. lol!

I wouldn't say I have nostalgia for it, but I do have a copy of the sequel, Bug Too!, that I got with my eBay-obtained Saturn almost 20 years ago.

Some framerate drops here and there too. Nothing game-breaking, but why play on Vita if the PS3 has a rock solid framerate? Years back when I was buying loads of games for Vita, I nearly bought The Sly Cooper Collection for Vita. The reason I didn't, was because only the first two games were included on the cart. There was a voucher to download the third (which is now expired btw). The idea of paying for three games, but only getting two of them on the physical cart, did not sit well with me. So if the PS3 version includes all three games on one disc, yeah that's another vote towards that version.
