It feels really good to deal that much damage to the boogers. It feels even better if you're lucky and they stick around and you get multiples. It basically gives your mage/sage something to prep for assuming they don't all run the first turn, and you can still employ the other techniques and maybe get lucky with your other hitters in the first round.
I'm glad, though, that they added the King Metal Slimes in DWIV. I used to spend a lot of time farming them. I have a save that *checks save file* has all my people mostly above level 55, with Alena being at 59 and maxed in both strength and agility. Also, at that level, her critical hit rate is *checks notes* 23%, not far off from her max of 25% at level 64. Throw the Stiletto Earrings on, and you've got a 50% chance of getting a crit every single turn in battle. She absolutely wrecks Necrosaro.

Yeah, I was surprised there weren't King Metal Slimes in DQ3 at first. It's such an iconic monster. Any time you manage to kill one in the wild you're happy.

Does the experience value vary much between entries? If I remember right, the value for them in DWIV was just a smidge over 30,000, and my memory is that it bounced around a little bit, but tended to stay in that 30,000 range. So basically three Metal Babbles in one shot.

Now that is some serious EXP.

Now that is some serious EXP. I think by the time you were high enough level to even hit one of these things, that experience drop wouldn't be doing much for you anyway.

Ex It's not really a question of grinding. The only way you can reasonably beat them is to hit them with a critical. There are legit, non-arcane ways to have a pretty high critical rate in DQ/W7 - skills and stuff like that. So it's really just a matter of chance. You have to encounter one, it has to stick around, and you have to hit it with a critical. It's only going to happen maybe two or three times in a normal playthrough, but when it does, it's cause for celebration. I look at those monsters as jus a way to spice things up.

My Dragon Quest adventure continues... it is time for DQ6!
Just sunk an hour and half into it so far. Initial impressions are, much like DQ3 SNES... the VIBES are immaculate. The gorgeous graphics, music, etc is incredible. Jaw dropping stuff. This one has the "Tactics" stuff the DS games had, I'm not sure about the original DQ4-5 though? My only menu nitpick so far is that you can't use items directly from the bag from what I can tell, you have to transfer them over first. I also am not sure if you can see your gold anywhere in the menus, lol.
But yeah, oh baby this game FEELS amazing. I think it's toei's favorite and Sarge is a fan. But beyond that, this seems to be a rather obscure entry for whatever reason. I guess it was a late SNES release so some skipped out on it? Then the low print run of the DS remake (I'm guessing) didn't help it reach much of a new audience. But I think I can already tell this will be one of the best and shouldn't be overlooked.
I love hearing those classic tracks and movements retooled over the games.
I'm also loving the Dragon Quest Dai remake anime right now and started up the old Abel series today. Seems promising. Triple dose of Dragon Quest!

Late release and the fact that we here in the States never got it, just like Dragon Quest V. As a fan of the series, it was incredibly disappointing to miss out on those, and the closing of Enix of America was a huge blow at the time.

That's such a bummer. I guess DQ5 is beloved in Japan but it would be amusing if we had gotten both here in English, I wonder if DQ6 might have been the more popular one in the West. That seemed to differ a little with FF too for the older titles. DQ6 seems like it'll be cooler and darker than DQ5 to me.
