I think my response in the other thread is probably good for here, too.
Eww.
(In all seriousness, it's fine. Folks like what they like, and I'm not going to judge them for it. I may not care for them, but I do know there were legitimately good games in those series.)

Yeah if you're looking at the very tippity top sellers, that's the kinda stuff you're gonna see. There's still lots of options if you look towards critical darlings that also sold above average. But if you really want to play VtmB, by all means. I'm willing to wager you will at least enjoy it.

Yeah, personally, I'd open this month up to either mega sellers or games that received critical acclaim, even if they didn't sell well.

I'm not trying to gatekeep anybody. I just want folks to have fun playing old games. A lot of the 6th/7th gen big hitters you dudes have probably already played through anyway. I've still got a lot of catching up to do comparatively. I've never even played a God of War entry.

I'm honestly not sure how you'd feel about those. They were certainly popular, but I'd take Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden over them. They're still pretty good, though - I didn't hate my time with the first two games or the first PSP entry.

I'm surprised they never tried to do a crossover of all three. A first-person football game where you can shoot each other. And drive stolen cars on the field in the middle of the game.

Yeah, I glanced over the NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and maybe another list or two, it feels like I have the majority of this stuff covered. A handful of games I never beat, but I've played a lot of what I saw. Except for Excitebike on NES... not sure if I've ever touched that one.
It's late and I'm tired though, so I skimmed those lists quickly. It's an interesting criteria so I might dig more into it when I have time.
PC could be very interesting though, I'm sure I have a lot of gaps there. Civilization V (2010) is the first one at the top that I haven't played while making the cut, and is something I joked about recently having owned it for ~7 years now and being curious about this genre... lol.
Hmmm, Myst...

Hoo, yeah, definitely have a lot covered looking at the NES/SNES best-selling lists. There probably won't be much from me on that front, because that's the sweet spot for my retro gaming anyway. EDIT: Maybe this list might help some folks out as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_considered_the_bestAlso, the Defining Games features over on Racketboy might be a good place to check as well.

Going only up the top 25, here's what I missed in days of yore.
*2600* Played them all. Great games minus a couple mediocre titles in there.
*NES* Zelda II: Never beat, never got far enough to be satisfied it. I should definitely return to this at some point. I start it up every 5 years or so, so now's about right to do it again. Punch-Out!!: Never beat Tyson. SMB2J: I don't even own All-Stars anymore, but I held out for years hoping to come across the Famicom cart. Need to do that ASAP. DQII: I'll for now. The only sports game in the top 25 I skipped but wish I hadn't was Pro Wrestling. The only wrestling game I ever liked was WWF Royal Rumble for the Genesis. *Game Boy* F-1 Race: Is it even worth playing? Would you believe I'm not a Pokemon fan? Skipped them all. I didn't love Wario Land either, but I did play it extensively. *SNES* Only never played the DQ games. *N64* You can't pay me to play Pokemon Snap. I played some of one of the Mario Parties back in the day, but never cared about them enough to remember which. So two of the three on the N64 list I skipped, but I don't think I want to go back to it. *Genesis* Played everything on that list except NFL 98, but I played enough football games to be ok without it. Sad that's it for the proper retro stuff. I'm sure I missed a bunch on the TG16 and Master System. From the Ps1 on, there are too many I never played, but why would I? If I didn't love Gran Turismo, would I really need to play GT2? Do I have to play the Harry Potter games? How did those even sell so well? Actually, I think I played most of PS1 top 25 except Tony Hawk and Spyro 2. I only played 6 of the top 25 PS2 to any great length (GTA3/VC, GT3ASpec, MGS2, Need for Speed Underground, NFL 2005 I think, or at least one of them). A couple I sampled for a few hours before deciding it wasn't for me and selling (DQ8, God of War, I think Medal of Honor, Jak and Daxter, which was more for my ex-wife, and Rachet and Clank).
