Going only up the top 25, here's what I missed in days of yore. Zelda II <-I've never finished this one either. A white whale to this day. Punch-Out!!: Never beat Tyson. <-I managed to beat this last year. Tyson lived up to his legendary difficulty. Fantastic game though. SMB2J: <-You might have saw I recently beat this. I think it's worth your time as a challenge, but it's no gem. Pro Wrestling <-I played this a LOT as a kid. I don't know how good it'd be for an adult. F-1 Race: Is it even worth playing? <-If you liked Pole Position maybe. Would you believe I'm not a Pokemon fan? Skipped them all. <-I'm not sure if we have any Pokemon fans on this forum actually.
Sad that's it for the proper retro stuff. I'm sure I missed a bunch on the TG16 and Master System. <-If you are interested in these systems, there are knowledgeable members for both platforms on this forum. From the Ps1 on, there are too many I never played, but why would I? <-Well in the top 25 list, the Tomb Raider, Tekken, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy entries aren't exactly terrible games. Dragon Quest VII is also at #20.

I'm sure I missed a bunch on the TG16 and Master System. <-If you are interested in these systems, there are knowledgeable members for both platforms on this forum. Trust me, I played my fair share of TG games. I recently downsized from about 50 TG games to 30. Here's what's left: www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?name=o.pwuaioc&action=&results=&findimages=&folder=Collection&console=|039|&console=|041|But I know that many of the big sellers I skipped. Sometimes on purpose, since I came to this console so late, but it got me wondering about what I missed out on. Master System is a different story. I love the few games I now own for it, but so many games I got were not that great. I really do feel like it pales in comparison to the NES so often. Perhaps it's just nostalgia talking. 2D or bust! Only slightly kidding, but I played all those as a kid. Not the biggest fan of any of those genres, though. I actually played about half of the PS1 list. But there are so many sequels it's insane. There are 3 Final Fantasies (9 was legit imo), two Grant Turismos, 3 Crash Bandicoots, 4 Tomb Raiders, and 2 Spyros with a third coming at 27. Xeogred is talking about Call of Duty and Madden on the PS2, but the PS1 really pioneered sequel-rhea.

That's a pretty impressive TurboGrafx set for sure, though, even if it's downsized.
I don't consider myself a Pokemon fan, either. I own a decent number of them, surprisingly, but have only played through Pokemon Blue. Those were the days where all I needed was "new RPG" and I was good. I do understand the appeal, even if they tend to be a bit grindier than I'd like for my current tastes.

Master System | I really do feel like it pales in comparison to the NES so often. Perhaps it's just nostalgia talking. Not nostalgia, you are right, the NES library destroys the SMS library overall. Chalk that up to the NES capturing the majority of the best Japanese console developers at the time. That said, the SMS is not without it's own excellent exclusives. They just don't number nearly as high as the NES quantity.
toei and I both agree that Zillion II: The Tri Formation is a hidden gem on the system. I suggest checking it out sometime. You'll want to get past the first level before making any assumptions. Too true.

Yeah, two of my good friends love Pokemon (especially the classic stuff) and swear it's deep, but I just never got the appeal. Like everyone else, I downloaded Pokemon Go, but that didn't last a day. toei and I both agree that Zillion II: The Tri Formation is a hidden gem on the system. I suggest checking it out sometime. You'll want to get past the first level before making any assumptions. Whoa, I got Zillion II in a big lot back in the day, played the first level, didn't like it, and sold it with the other filler. Maybe I messed up on that. I do have the first Zillion lying around somewhere, too, but I needed to give it another go before positively deciding to keep it. Let me know what you think about this one. I never played this one, but it's always been somewhere on my radar. I think I always confused it with Valkyria Chronicles.

The first Zillion is more Metroidvania, the second is a straightforward action game. I thought Zillion II was fine, but yeah, toei and Ex really like it. It's definitely worth a go. Just read the manual! There are ways to make the game a good bit easier with helper characters that I didn't know about.

played the first level, didn't like it Yeah that happens to most folks. There are multiple game designs in Zillion II. Riding the bike is only one of them, and it's the least interesting. There are on foot missions, and mission where you fly in a hovering mech suit. I've also beaten the original Zillion. I think it's a brilliant game, but I am forever alone in that thinking it would seem. I've never met another person on any forum who enjoyed Zillion, or even played it for more than five minutes. Zillion has aspects of the "metroidvania" genre and Epyx's Impossible Mission, but with an anime overtone. Honestly if you take the time to learn how to play Zillion, and get deep inside the Norsa base, you'd probably find the experience enthralling. Especially as you begin to rescue other party members to play as. Apple was my first waifu crush as a kid.

That's some gorgeous '80s anime art. And yeah, I love Zillion 2. All aspects of with. It's a cross between the Moon Patrol-style bike levels, action platforming, and shmup gameplay, and it's good at all of them. It's a very pure action game (what some people call "arcade"). I don't think there's anything like it on the NES, either.
The Zillion anime is pretty good, too. I don't watch a ton of anime, but I liked this one enough to stick with it. I didn't like the original Zillion game enough to stick with it, but I don't like Metroid all that much, either.

*NES* Zelda II: Never beat, never got far enough to be satisfied it. I should definitely return to this at some point. I start it up every 5 years or so, so now's about right to do it again. Punch-Out!!: Never beat Tyson. SMB2J: I don't even own All-Stars anymore, but I held out for years hoping to come across the Famicom cart. Need to do that ASAP. DQII: I'll for now. The only sports game in the top 25 I skipped but wish I hadn't was Pro Wrestling. The only wrestling game I ever liked was WWF Royal Rumble for the Genesis. I've only beaten Zelda II like twice, probably once via emulation 20 years ago and more recently on the Wii U VC port with the one save state. Used some guides loosely too. I've always been a defender and love that game, but it'll test your patience heh.
I just beat SMB2J myself and dug it, I'd recommend playing with Luigi. You could also go with the All Stars version instead, which gives you easier access to the super hard A-D worlds.
Not sure how big you are on DQ, but I beat DQ1-2 SNES last year and you might want to consider that version for DQ2. I'm pretty sure playing it that way saved me at least 10-20 hours of grinding, no joke. I still had to grind a lot at the end game though. I genuinely enjoyed them both and am glad I knocked them out, but it was kind of more for the history points. But if you like the NES ones, I think Sarge knows them like the back of his hand.

Let me know what you think about this one. IIRC only Sarge and myself have beaten Valkyrie Profile on this forum. Sarge has previously cited this JRPG as his all time favorite PS1 title.
I personally would give VP an 8/10. It's got above average writing, excellent graphics, an amazing OST, interesting exploration mechanics, and a pretty decent combat system. However, a good 20% of this game's latter content is blocked off, unless you use a guide to access it. You will not figure out how to get to that material, nor acquire the true ending, without using a guide. This was on purpose, and I begrudge that against the game. According to tri-Ace, VP sold 709,000 units on PS1, but only 73,000 of those sales were in the west. I'm not sure how many copies the PSP port actually sold, but VGChartz claims 360,000 copies of the PSP port sold in total.
