Screenshots: Has anybody here ever played Wander Wonder? This a PC-only, Japan-only, action-JRPG developed and published by Compile in 2000. (Apparently it works in Windows 10: seldane.proboards.com/thread/6492/wander-wonder-works-windows-10 ) There's not a whole lot of info about this game on the English internet. Mobygames says: "Wander Wonder is an action-RPG with emphasis on puzzle solving similar to Alundra. The player takes the role of the 14 year old Gino. When Gino was young, he used to listen to his grandfather's stories about ancient ruins and now, with his grandfather's memorial stone in his hands, he ended up in the Atreus region. Will Gino be able to find the purpose of his grandfather's stone? Will the reason why an ancient civilization seized to exist be found? What happened to the girl whom Gino encountered?"www.mobygames.com/game/wander-wonderThere's no English fan translation yet either, but apparently the game's playable enough without being able to read the dialogue. Anyway, just wondering if anyone here's played this game, and what they thought about it. - Also this thread can be used henceforth in general, for discussing Japan-only PC-only action-JRPGs, if anyone wants to recommend or ask about any.

It looks very mid-'90s ish for 2000. Definitely my type. But no, in general, while I know a bit more about the older Japanese RPGs released on Japanese computers, everything DOS and Windows is super obscure to me unless it got a console port.

It looks pretty cool. But nope, never even heard of it. There's so much out there like that! If only I had a longer lifespan, maybe I could actually get to a ton of these.

everything DOS and Windows is super obscure to me unless it got a console port Indeed, and there is a LOT of DOS/Windows Japanese PC games that have never been localized into English, or any other language. I do recall one Japanese Windows action-RPG that was fan translated though: agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=rakugaIf only I had a longer lifespan, maybe I could actually get to a ton of these. This is really the biggest reason why I've not seriously tried to learn Japanese. I already have enough anxiety about all the English games I own and have yet to play. Learning Japanese would triple that anxiety.

I think Guardian of Paradise was a doujin, too? Made by just one guy. You wouldn't know from the quality of it, nice game with very pretty graphics. The only thing that suggests it was an indie title is that I remember it being shorter than average. But I dug it.

I will take the this opportunity, and the theme of this thread, to re-endorse these PC action-JRPGs: www.gog.com/game/zwei_the_arges_adventure
I've only beaten the second game, but it was excellent. I've played enough of the first game to know it's at least good, if not ultimately great.

Zwei II is still on my list as soon as I get a PC that doesn't choke on it.

Zwei II is still on my list as soon as I get a PC that doesn't choke on it. The first Zwei would probably run A-OK on your current laptop, if you wanted to play the games in release order. I only played the second game first, because XSEED localized it first.

Wander Wonder looks nice, but I couldn't find out if it was 2-player. The wife and I would like it.

I just didn't like the look of how the first Zwei played, so I skipped it. If I see it super cheap, I'll likely snag it, though.
