I feel like this is different enough from the "Retro Styled Modern Games Thread" cause that makes me think of Blazing Chrome looking like a SNES game but running on Nintendo Switch. This topic is supposed to be for stuff that actually runs on old school hardware but was developed recently.
Hellslave for Sega Saturn is the main reason I started this thread:
This is so exciting! I hope it grows into a full game with a campaign and different enemies and all that.

Great idea to split this off from that thread. Stuff like Xeno Crisis, Gunlord, or Pier Solar fit well here. And I'm surprised at how solid some of the games are coming from the homebrew devs. Definitely cool times in the retro scene.

I couldn't find what engine the game is using. If it is its own, I hope it gets released--that Saturn hardware looks somewhat tricky.
The game looks good!

I thought the music sounded too awesome to be brand new and guess I was right, as it's just some more Unreal material from Alexander Brandon haha. Dang that looks cool though. Here's an obvious one for me that I played a month or two back and loved, Gunlord.

Speaking of Gunlord, I gave it a spin in the Dreamcast and that soundtrack is legit.

The guy who made Hellslave made the engine himself. Originally he was trying to recreate Sonic Xtreme but he decided to make a Quake-inspired FPS instead.

Sarge: It's insane. And really does capture that 90's RBA vibe to me.

GunLord is technically exquisite. I recommend it for anyone who is super into Turrican stuff. I struggled with selling my copy, but there is just something about it that I couldn't get past. I blame the Dreamcast controller, though in retrospect perhaps I should have tried a different controller before letting it go.

I played the X version on PS4 myself, felt pretty fine there. I thought the DC had a good d-pad at least? Unless the joystick is forced... actually that might have been the case with X too and the d-pad acted like more buttons, even though you can only map like 3-4 actions. Who knows, the fact that I didn't have to think about the controls says that it wasn't a problem, heh.

I fully support the idea of developers producing software for "dead" consoles. I think it's really cool when they take the time to code legit games for the actual hardware. That said, the only throwback game of this sort that I've actually purchased, was Soulless for C64. I paid for the disk image, to use on an emulator, because I didn't own a real C64. The game is quite good, but also viciously difficult. I never beat it, but I felt like I got my money out of it.
