I agree with the Emulation Wiki as well. I've referenced it a few times to figure out how things shake out these days. Turns out that what used to be great has often been surpassed by now! (I doubt anything is going to supplant bsnes/higan, Mesen/Nestopia UE, or BlastEm, though, short of rolling with an FPGA.)

Put 3 more hours into Champions of Norrath today, via co-op. This is an action-RPG spinoff from EverQuest. This is basically Diablo except good, and we're quite enjoying it. There's a bit more depth and strategy to the game than the original Dark Alliance, and that's appreciated. Also graphically impressive, and a dual-layer disc no less. This will be my main game for this theme (don't know if we'll get it done this month), but there's a few more shorter games I plan to check out as well.

(game looked excellent via Duckstation!)
Knocked out Resident Evil Survivor.
- Dogs were the hardest enemies because of how nimble and quick they are. - In 99% of every situation or monster, the the pistol seemed to be the best weapon here... which also has infinite ammo. I never care about Accuracy ratings in these, so I just fired away. Pretty easy with the analog controls. - Overall, game gets pretty boring after about 30 minutes or whatever. It's not quite short enough to feel like a fun arcade romp, but hardly has the depth for a longer or more complex game too. It felt half baked. The disappointing thing is that most of the game does feel and play great. If there was more going on here and something more extensive, I think that would have been pretty cool. That said I don't recall Survivor ever being pushed much or talked about a ton in magazines. It was always just a little experimental spinoff I guess. There are different paths you can take. I went through a few different doors this time through compared to when I first emulated it a few days ago. So I did get through a few different buildings, but it's nothing too Earth shattering in terms of differences.
Hilarious ending song like some of the other older RE's...

Yeah RE:S isn't so great. The RE rail shooters on Wii are great though man.

Yeah RE:S isn't so great. The RE rail shooters on Wii are great though man. I've beaten one of those, probably the first one since I recall it going through REZero and RE1 events. I didn't love it either, but it blows Survivor away for sure.
I think I just need a lightgun or have to be in the arcades with friends to really enjoy this genre. To be fair, it's cool to be in control of your actual movement in Survivor. But yeah, the game had no depth at all. I think it could have had maybe one save point or two and more branching paths. Could have been more interesting.

Alright got another PSX and popped in Mega Man Legends. The control were strange at first, but the game flows very well. It appears to follow the upgrade path like in X so this should be a good one.
And that monkey, what are they feeding? He is doing a supper happy dance at all times. Its like they are feeding him something.

I think I just need a lightgun or have to be in the arcades with friends to really enjoy this genre. Well with the Wii games I was talking about, I did beat all of those co-op, so that surely made them funner. Also Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles was a step-up from Umbrella Chronicles. I'm disappointed you didn't get to play that one. But still, these Cavia-developed Wii RE shooters were leaps and bounds above the dreck Capcom shat out on PS1 and PS2 in the genre. And that monkey, what are they feeding? He is doing a supper happy dance at all times. Its like they are feeding him something. If you must know.
I'm glad to read you were able to get MML1 working. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts about the game after you've delved deeper into it. For me, MML1 represents halcyon memories of simpler times, it's such a charming game to play with its tangible joy de vivre atmosphere. And I adored Kattelox island, just a great place to explore and hang out. I'm way overdue for a replay of this one.

Ex : To be fair... I just remembered, I played Umbrella Chronicles on the PS3. So via a normal controller. I should get these for the Wii and can see that being way better. I do own Sin & Punishment: Star Successor though.
paulofthewest : I may have mentioned this already, but you can change the strafing controls from like the d-pad to the shoulder buttons, or vice versa. I recall liking one control scheme a lot more than the other, so maybe mess around with the options if you haven't yet?
It's funny how MML kind of has Ocarina of Time's "Z targeting" system... a year before OoT. Now, I'm still a bigger OoT fan. But MML deserves way more credit than it gets. The cel shading helps it hold up visually really well too.

I typically preferred the setup where all movement was on the d-pad and all camera control was on the L/R butons. But I can see it working well the other way, too. Just find one style that seems to work and stick with it. It'll get more natural over time.

I should get these for the Wii and can see that being way better. Yes, using the Wii Remotes as light guns is far preferable. There are also other great light gun shooters on Wii as well. Dead Space: Extraction was so good I beat it twice. You know that says a lot, when I don't care for Dead Space and I don't like re-beating games. If you only listen to my advice about playing one game this year, make it this one. It seriously burns my ass that Star Successor is so outstanding yet remains so ignored. The single best rail shooter I've ever played. I've pointed that out before as well. And I agree with you. For my tastes, MML > OoT, all day every day.
