Oh, you made it sound like some kind of obstruction/complication preventing you from being able to use the PS4 anytime soon. I still don't have a 4k set myself.
I knock on Fallout 4 but still sunk over 100 hours into it, which is rare for me. 107 to be precise on HLTB, for the platinum. I really dig like the gameplay and just exploring, even if it was purely adrenaline from the combat. My excuse is that I still get a little more into first person open world games thesedays. Since they're not as common as the third person ones. I suspect whenever Cyberpunk 2077 is patched up better and I can get back to that one, I'll be going deep with it too.
As for Andromeda... I'm too lazy to find the exact video that might have permanently sold me against it, but it really showcased how like every single major plot beat was just a lazy rehash of ME1. It was pretty shocking and hilarious. I don't know how it looks worse than ME2-ME3 too, but it does. Some characters even look borderline cartoony. Whenever I get closer to thinking about playing this one, I just remember to replay the trilogy instead. I'm excited for the upcoming remasters already, when I marathoned the whole trilogy recently in 2019. lol, I'd like to try and get through them all with FemShep, but I dunno... the guy is kind of my canon since I played it that way so much over the years.

PS4 is fine on a 1080p set. That's all you're going to push out, anyway. I do have a copy of Andromeda for PC. Can't run it, though.

To tell the truth I think 1080p looks alright even on a 60 inch set, be it for games or movies. I wonder if I'm only really sensitive to higher resolutions on a computer monitor up close in front of my face.

I mean, I have a 4K set, but all my content is 1080p anyway. And yes, I think at the distances most people view at, 1080p is still just fine. I've got a 50" set, and for watching shows in particular, it looks fantastic in 1080p. I also still marveled at God of War's graphical fidelity. Talk about pushing an aging system.

Can it do HDR? I hear that's still a lot better on TV's over monitors. Resolution wise, my newest monitor for my powerful PC can do 1440p. Up close I can see the difference between that and 1080p. Subtle, but the sharpness stacks up. So it would be interesting to see 4k on a monitor. I'll keep waiting for OLED's to be more affordable. That's what I want! Give me those better colors again.
That said, was pretty shocked during some of the holiday sales a few months ago, seeing good 50" TV's with all the current bells and whistles for like $350 at Target and stuff.

It technically can do HDR (it was patched in later), but the peak brightness isn't enough to do it justice. Some of those cheaper sets are fine if you're okay with lower end stuff, but they won't have 120 Hz refresh rates and their HDR likely isn't great. They're still very workable, just realize you're not getting a premium experience. I'd love a 120 Hz set, especially after seeing my brother's new set (Samsung Q80) and the way it handles motion. It's so much more stable without image doubling than mine. I hear that the LG CX series is the "in" OLED now in the gaming community. And that includes retro gamers. RetroRGB took a look at it. The only thing that gives me pause is 1) the price, and 2) OLED image retention/burn-in. www.retrorgb.com/lg-cx-oled-lag-tests-and-ossc-compatibility.htmlwww.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/cx-oled

I still don't have a 4k set myself. I only have two HDTVs. The one in my dork cave that I use for personal gaming, is a Samsung UN32EH4003. It is geared towards 1080p and is only 32". However, I sit so close to that HDTV, that 32" is plenty big enough. In the living room however, I've got an LG 65UK7700, which is a 65-Inch 4K. That's the one that I watch 4K (and 1080p) movies on, and do co-op gaming with my wife. It's above the fireplace, so we don't sit all that close to it. I agree. I find first person games are always more immersive. Having an open world to explore from that viewpoint is very involving. I was a little interested, until I started reading about all the censorship the new developers are doing to the remasters. No thanks, I don't support censorship. Also, I haven't played ME3 yet. I've finished ME1 and ME2, using a femshep. Finishing ME3 is on my gaming-goal list for this year. PS4 is fine on a 1080p set. That's all you're going to push out, anyway. Good point. Can it do HDR? I hear that's still a lot better on TV's over monitors. Yes the original PS4 and Slim models can both do HDR. That's why I haven't upgraded my dork cave HDTV yet. Because when I do, I want it to be OLED. I have a few small screen devices which use OLED, and they just look glorious. So when large size OLED HDTVs become more economical, I'll bite.
