That's definitely one I've always wanted to finish. I should probably give it a go before the month is up! It's quite a bit easier than some of the shmups you've already beaten this month. Should be cake for you now.

I've played and think I've beaten both Einhänder and Thunder Force V, but kind of have a bias against those early 3D shmups. Never a huge fan of those aesthetics. I should give them another shot though. R-Type Delta has that look too...

I know its a bit of a barrier to entry, but if anyone happens to have a VR headset, there are VB emulators for that too, that imo are even better than using an actual system. We had a VB Club thingy a while back and I played through a bunch of the library on an Oculus Rift and thought it was excellent.

Title: Philosoma Platform: PlayStation Region release played: USA Year of release: 1996 Developer: G Artist Publisher: SCEA Graphics: 3/5 Audio: 3/5 Challenge: 3/5 Fun factor: 4/5 Quick Thoughts: Philosoma is a PlayStation exclusive shmup, released early in the platform's lifespan (published 1995 in Japan). This shooter strove to be a show pony of the PS1's graphical capabilities, including 2D sprite manipulation, 3D polygonal backgrounds, and CG rendered FMVs. The developer incorporated many different viewpoints as the player flies through 18 stages blasting away. An unusual weapon system is also included, giving the player great agency over their firing patterns. Philosoma exceeded my expectations, rewarding my time investment with unusual shmup design and consistently entertaining stages.
+Constantly changing viewpoints offer refreshing shooting action. +Capable weapon system works well for any given situation. +Large variety of stage designs. +Above average voice acting for its age. +The twist ending was unexpected and delightful. -The prerendered 2D sprites are a bit crusty looking. -The OST overall is not particularly invigorating. -No two player mode. -I'd have enjoyed more bosses. -Won't be a challenge for shmup veterans. Ex's time to beat: 57 minutes Ex's rating: 7/10- That's gonna wrap this this month's theme up for me. Here's what I beat: Divine Sealing | Mega Drive | 5/10 Einhander | PlayStation | 8/10
Gradius Gaiden | PlayStation | 5/10
Gun-Nac | Nintendo Entertainment System | 8/10 Keio Flying Squadron | SEGA CD | 7/10
M.U.S.H.A. | Genesis | 6/10 Philosoma | PlayStation | 7/10
Vertical Force | Virtual Boy | 6/10 See you all next month in whatever Sarge cooks up for us.

Never heard of this one, though I really wasn't paying attention to shoot-'em-ups in those days. Sounds intriguing, with the different viewpoints and all.

toei you may actually like this one. It's got a dark, gritty, techno vibe and culminates in biohorror stuff.

Ohh, that's the one with a very obscure Japanese only survival horror sequel... for some reason, Phase Paradox.
