I agree with all of toei 's recs outside of Gate of Thunder, since I haven't played it much. I like a lot of Ex 's list, too, at least the ones that I've actually put time into. Xeogred : It's Lords of Thunder on Sega CD, and there are differences. Sega CD version is easier, and has a different mix on the soundtrack. I prefer the soundtrack of the Sega CD version, personally, but others like the grittier sound of the Duo game. Gate of Thunder seems to draw a lot of inspiration from the Thunder Force games. Also, I can't be the only one that is annoyed that searching for Thunder Force now brings up that awful-looking comedy movie released this year. Ugh. I'll have to give the PCE-CD version a shot then!
And yeah... I was worried that movie was going to put a stain on this once great game series.

The company that made both Gate of Thunder and Lord of Thunder was started by former Technosoft (and RED) employees, hence the similarities with Thunder Force. I could never actually get into Thunder Force 3 or 4, but Gate of Thunder is really good.

If I play Gate of Thunder, I'd like to do it on the MiSTer, but no save states there might make it more viable on the Mini.

Holy confusing Batman, okay so Gate of Thunder and Lords of Thunder are completely different games. It's just Lords of Thunder that has two varied versions between the Sega CD and PCE CD. Lol, I thought I was going crazy looking these up. Gate of Thunder didn't look familiar at all. So yeah I must have just played the Sega CD version of Lords of Thunder before.

I ain't no shmup master. Save states since I can't credit-feed my way to victory. (I did beat Silver Surfer, and I'd like to see if someone can legit finish that one as well.)

I'm just jivin' ya. Don't blame anyone for save-stating if all you're doing is content tourism. If I do 1CC any games for this month, I'll definitely point it out though.

Yeah, I know, that's why I did the wink. If I find one that I really cotton to, I probably will go for a legit win, although probably not a 1CC. Unless I just happen to stumble into one. That doesn't generally happen for me in shooters.
