As pointed out by dunpeal2064 , we don't have a MiSTer thread. Well now we do! Feel free to ask stuff about the project here, or talk about your setup, or issues you might be experiencing in various cores. My go-to resources for the MiSTer are: github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/wiki - Contains all sorts of FAQs, as well as links to the Github projects so you can track progress in cores. misterfpga.org - Discussion forum for cores and whatnot. A good place to troubleshoot with other users. For folks in the US, I ordered my SDRAM and analog IO board from MiSTer Addons: misteraddons.com

Oh sweet!
I definitely enjoy my MiSTer, even though I have quite a fair amount of real hardware hooked up all fancy with flash carts and ODEs. The ability to have one box with an arcade stick, saturn pad, keyboard, and mouse all hooked up, plugged into both my CRT and my PC capture card is really convenient.
I know the update_all script is pretty good for grabbing new releases, but I thought it'd be nice to have a place to discuss other releases that might go under the radar. Jotego releasing all that CPS2 goodness, nullobject releasing Cave stuff (Uo Poko and Esp Ra De betas just came out last weekend!). Granted, you have to sub to their Patreon to get access prior to a public release, but I think its worth a few bucks.
One bit of troubleshooting that I've been curious about but haven't dug super deep into, is whether or not (Both in general, and on the MiSTer) a 24khz output signal can be properly displayed on a 15khz CRT. I'd really love to get the X68000 core running on my PVM, and if/when a PC-98 core gets released, I'd love to get that working too.

Ooh, that's something I'm not sure about. At some point, I'd like to fiddle around with getting the ao486 core to push 200/240p out to a CRT. I feel like I could play DOOM that way pretty easily. I have a feeling that the MiSTer would need to do some sort of conversion to get it out of 24KHz to display properly. I also don't know how all that works on BVM/PVMs, since I don't have any of those, just a big honkin' Trinitron.
I haven't even delved into the unofficial cores yet, and I'm patiently waiting on CPS2 to exit beta since I'm not a backer. Looks fantastic, though, and getting the Cave stuff is just excellent. DoDonPachi definitely ranks up there as far as shooters go for me.
I don't actually have mine hooked up via wireless yet (I'm considering getting a USB board and case, though), so I use the PC-based update_all script. That works pretty well, although I'm constantly having to pull the MicroSD out. It's definitely exciting to see what's new every time I run the updater - you just never know what surprises await (unless you scour the changelogs like I do, haha).

Yeah, I saw that, but at least the work is out there. Robert Peip, who is currently working on the Wonderswan core and is responsible for the GBA core, said that he'd take it up if someone else didn't, and that PSX absolutely needed to be done. I think he's got the skills to pull it off, too.
Thankfully, Saturn still seems to be progressing, and if it actually all fits, I'll be absolutely floored. Some of the technical chops of these guys can't be denied. It's like the SD2SNES and thinking SA1 was impossible on the base model... and redguy pulled it off.

I really hope a Sega Saturn FPGA core comes to fruition. That's the one I want the most.

It will be fantastic for sure. In the meantime, I've got a Fenrir coming eventually so I can play via ODE.

dunpeal2064: Are you running your PC-98 stuff on the MiSTer? How is that core? I haven't tried to set things up for it, so if you're running it there, where's a good place to start?

I haven't messed with it yet, but I do want to check it out just to see how it is. It'll be hard to move away from PC emulation for PC-98 though, text hookers alone will probably make PC my main way to play it. Still curious to give it a try though, I'll let you know how it goes once I do!

Yeah, I finally got a reasonable setup on the PC side when I played through Rusty, so I'm not entirely sure how much work I want to put in yet for the MiSTer side of things.
