Metal Slug is great. I've got that collection as well, was definitely a worthwhile pickup. As for Dragon Warrior IV, I think folks are well aware of my effusive praise for it by now.

DW4=Best 8-bit RPG.
Last weekend I played the new Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown at a friend's place. The original game (Final Showdown) came out in Japanese arcades in 2011, so it's legal according to HRG laws, and the remaster is basically the same game, just updated visually and with new online features. My friend lent me his PS3 and copy of the original VF5 port, so I plan to go through the tutorial, settle on a character, etc., as the last game in the series I played a fair amount of time was VF3. I'd like to become decent at this one, as a fighting game is perfect for me now - you can play it short bursts, it's social, and it's competitive - and this still the fighter for me.

So what does everyone have on tap for the weekend? The past two days I've been doing analog gaming. (Today my daughter and I had fun with this and this, for example.) But tonight I plan to finally get into Landstalker. I'll likely play it more over the weekend, provided I enjoy it.

Somehow I got myself on a massive visual novel kick. This has been one of my favorite genres of late. Recently picked up these beauties and installed them with their respective English patches. They will be played soon!

I've actually heard of two of these, at any rate. Cool pickups!

Yeah, they must be pretty big in their genre, because I've also heard of two of them. Pretty sure they have anime spin-offs, which does a lot for name recognition.

bonesnapdeez Have you seen the respective anime shows? If yes, I'd be interested in your expectations going in vs how the games compare.

I wonder if it's like how some people view novels vs movies, haha. VN's might be richer in context over the anime adaptations. I watched the original series back in the 2000's. It was just okay to me. For some reason this meme stuck with me the most.

Are the official Quake II expansions any good? I was thinking of playing them, but I didn't particularly like the main Quake II campaign. Do you think the expansions elevate the experience, or are they more of the same?
