Burnout Revenge sure is some Burnout. Wish I had the 360 version, though, so I could get a bit more resolution. It's a bit muddier on XBOX with component cables, and running at 480p as well. (There are a few XBOX games that can run at 720p, though not many.)

I've known quite a few gamers who swore by Burnout, it was definitely a very popular racing series at one time.

I downloaded no less than 10 F-Zero track hacks. Meaning each unique hack replaces all 15 of the standard tracks in the base game with modified layouts. The first four hacks I tried weren't all that great, as usual amateurs tend to focus on sadistic design, with a strong preference for right angles, mines galore, and near impossible jumps. However, I've found one hack that I actually like, and am almost done with. I've finished the Knight and Queen cups on Standard, still working on its King cup though. The Port City II hack is... rather difficult. Anyway, once I beat this hack I'll say which one it is, in case anyone else wants to give it a run.

Dang, instantly playing some F-Zero hacks... guess this puts it above Metroid for you. Still wondering if you'll ever touch this. Is there anything else on here that has 14 YES recs?
Burnout was indeed big for a bit. I think that kind of game is a lot more fun with friends in the room though. Lot of chaos and shenanigans to laugh at.
I downloaded some of those 5th games and will check them out, maybe do some more research. Still in a 5th gen phase.
On a random note, I started watching this iconic anime series recently as well after all these years haha.

Dang, instantly playing some F-Zero hacks... guess this puts it above Metroid for you. Do I consider the original F-Zero to be a better game than the original Metroid? Yes. I consider the original F-Zero to be a perfect 10/10.
The original Metroid I'd give a 9.5/10 to, though. I still love me some Metroid, and yes I do plan to play Rogue Dawn eventually (and AM2R). There's just so many games, but not so much free time, my dude.
I have played a few Burnout games, and I remember the crashing into other cars to be fun. But for me it was short lived fun that got old quickly. I prefer the focus to be on the racing, and I also prefer futuristic racers most strongly. So F-Zero fits my tastes perfecto. Interesting. You'll have to let us know how it turns out over in the Chinese cartoons thread. But on that note, let me recommend a badass racing anime: www.anime-planet.com/anime/redline | en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redline_(2009_film) <-Highly recommended!

Alright I finished that F-Zero hack, it was this one... F-Zero - Nytezero by ROMhacker "Nytelyte": www.romhacking.net/hacks/1956/This hack replaces all 15 of the original tracks with completely modified ones (new tracks essentially). For the most part this is a solid set of track designs. The Knight and Queen cups all had good flow and were reasonably designed. However the King cup's final two tracks (Port City II and Silence) were pretty much trash. Hard right angles galore, narrow passages causing constant traffic jams, and strong winds on the 15th track especially was problematic. So I don't think the final two tracks were playtested very well, and it's obvious the ROMhacker didn't use the Fire Stingray in general. Still overall this was an entertaining ride. These hack tracks are more difficult and considerably longer than the original game tracks, so if you're an F-Zero fan looking for extra challenge, give Nytezero a try. I'll rate this hack a 7/10.

Speaking of which, aren't there a bunch of Initial D games? That and the other big '90s racing manga/anime franchise, Wangan Midnight. Hopefully someone here hits up some of those.

There are loads of Initial D games. But the only one I can recall being released in English was: The cars are driving themselves! The Initial D Special Stage on PS2 got a partial English translation, but the patch only translates the menus into English. I don't know of any Wangan Midnight games released in English. Edit: Surprisingly enough, IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix for PS2 got an official English release:

Ex And Wangan Dead Heat was released in English as Highway 2000 on the Saturn. The Wangan games are pretty much Genki's flagship series. They seem to have a good reputation among hardcore racing game fans. Anyway, I hit up Virtua Racing. Tried the Genesis port first, and everything seemed off; that's when I realized what I used to play was the 32X version, VR Deluxe. Did three races with it, first with F1 Car then the stock car, which handles a lot better IMO. The 32X version really is a huge improvement over the Genesis, it looks, sounds, and plays better. Still, it's wild that only two years separate Virtua Racing from Daytona USA. Arcade tech was progressing at an insane pace at the time. The Model 1 was already a huge improvement over previous 3D arcade boards, but the Model 2 just blows it out of the water.

toeiDoes the 32X version of Virtua Racing have more than three tracks? IIRC the Genesis version only had three tracks and it felt very constrained as a result. And I agree, the evolution of 3D in the '90s was astounding, leaps and bounds yearly. The difference between 1990 3D games versus 1999 3D games is night and day. How much of a difference do we see from 2010 3D games versus 2019 3D games?

I think it does add a couple more tracks. It's considered a pretty solid port, too. I find it funny, though, how the Genesis version cost so much back in the day, but it's one that you could commonly find for a few bucks just a couple years later. Guess it suffered from the usual "sports games" depreciation.
