This month is Xeogred's theme. See the OP of this thread.

My bad, I thought you were saying his theme would be horror-adventure, so I attributed this month's to anayo. Since, you know, PC-exclusives.

This month I'm settling an old score. I'm finishing Duke Nukem 3D for the first time (I started it two times but lost interest). I own the Atomic edition that GOG used to sell years ago, but having no Windows PC in Spain (had to leave it with my brother in German), I am playing the Anniversary Edition on the Switch.
It's not as good as playing it with a mouse and keyboard, but I've never been good with keyboards and the Switch makes it easy for me to pick it up and play one or two levels per night on my bed. A great way to chill after a hard day of work!
I'm almost at the end of the second chapter and I'm having tons of fun so far. Such a shame what happened to the franchise...

To be clear for anyone else: This month (October) is Xeogred's choice, he chose the theme of "1990s PC Exclusives". Personally, I've decided to play horror games which fit within that distinction, because October. I agree if we've ever had a theme anayo should like, it ought to be this one. I'm finishing Duke Nukem 3D from the very first time Nice choice, absolutely a '90s PC classic. I didn't know there was a Switch port, but I am not surprised in that regard.

I haven't decided what I'm going to play yet. I'll settle on something soon, though. I'm probably going to go with something shorter - might look at some adventure games from the era that I still haven't gotten to. I still haven't finished most of the Monkey Island series, for example.
Ooh, Duke Nukem 3D would also be a good choice.

I've beaten both the Atomic and the new Anniversary Edition's. The new rendering option in Anniversary that makes vertical look not warp the image is pretty awesome. It also has a completely new episode with some of the old team doing new levels and stuff, it fits in pretty nicely and was back to some great urban/city levels (my favorite theme for DN3D). There were some joke references to modern stuff, like Serious Sam haha...
So yeah I say hit up Anniversary Edition if you tackle this one too Sarge .
The Build Engine has so much charm, but I'll admit I still haven't beaten Shadow Warrior myself. I always lose interest because of its bizarre level design (wacky key hunts and triggers like under a desk and stuff). It also has insane hit scanners.
Blood took years to click with me but it finally did and I loved it after the first two levels. I'm excited to hit up the PC version of PowerSlave sometime next when I'm ready for more Build Engine fun.

I wouldn't sweat it. Build Engine games are my favorite thing about MS-DOS gaming, yet Shadow Warrior is the weakest entry for me (I guess aside from Redneck Rampage or something, which I haven't bothered playing yet.) Unless you just need to play every Build Engine game ever, you can skip Shadow Warrior in good conscience. Check out the fan-made expansions for Blood if you haven't, though. They're not compliant with HRG's retro forum, but I thought they surpassed the retail version of Blood from 1997.

Ahhh yes, I forgot that half the battle in early 90's PC gaming is tinkering with Dosbox and configuring things.
Ex: Why don't you like Myst? Was thinking of finally checking it out.

DOSBox actually makes things a lot easier now, that's for sure. I was always fighting with my AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files, especially for older games that needed all the base 640 KB of memory they could get. Ultima VII and Star Control 2 were both really, really finicky.
