I may have to replay Demon's Crest for its shear awesomeness. You too are a man of culture I see. What platform does she prefer to play on?

Demon's Crest is top-tier SNES stuff. If there was a modern-day revival of a series that I really want to see, it's DC/Gargoyle's Quest. Forget that GnG stuff. (In all seriousness, I have mad respect for Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts.)

paulofthewest Could your wife get into a beat-'em-up? Because both Capcom and Konami were masters of the genre, and they're all multiplayer. If you want something that doesn't feel too violent, there's The Simpsons (arcade, you can use MAME) which is, obviously, pretty goofy and cartoony, as well as Asterix which is based on a French comic. The opposite of the spectrum would probably be the excellent The Punisher. Sarge Demon's Crest abandoned the RPG side, though, so it's not a proper Gargoyle's Quest. I'd go for a new Gargoyle's Quest in 3D, as long as they don't try to make the visual style too gritty. I like gritty, but it wouldn't work with the source material.

Well, not completely. It still has an economy and inventory, it just got rid of the top-view stuff. Honestly, both are very light on the RPG elements, and they're all fantastic games. Well, I think the NES one is just a smidge beneath, but still great. It looks awesome for the platform, though.

Inventories with equippable items may have originated in RPGs but by themselves, they're a pretty minor RPG element. And I like action-platformers, but most SNES games of the genre are slow and awkward, and Demon's Crest kind of is to me. A RPG framework would have sort of justified that pace to me.

I won't deny that Demon's Crest reduced the RPG aspects compared to its two predecessors. And I won't deny that Demon's Crest moves relatively slowly. But that's okay, not every platformer has to be fast paced and spastic. The slower pace gives DC a more methodical cadence, with tactical maneuvering and careful projectile combat. And all of this ignores that Demon's Crest is a gorgeous looking game, with outstanding atmosphere, awesome bosses, and a world class OST. I agree with Sarge, Gargoyle's Quest > Ghost 'n Goblins. That includes all the other games in their respective series.

For this month I'm mainly interested in SNES/GEN games that I haven't beaten yet. Stuff I'm considering:
Capcom Super Nintendo Mega Man X2 1994 North America Super Nintendo Mega Man X3 12/01/95 North America Super Nintendo Mickey to Donald Magical Adventure 3 12/08/95 Japan
Konami Genesis Rocket Knight Adventures 08/05/93 North America Genesis Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 09/23/94 North America Genesis Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters 1994 North America

Oh yeah, I beat Lethal Enforcers a few times over when we did light gun month. It's surprisingly solid for such an early light gun title. I'd say it was the step between the early shooting range-style light gun games and the more dynamic Virtua Gun/Time Crisis style. Lethal Enforcers 2 is not quite as good as the first, but it's pretty solid anyway. Playing the Genesis version is just masochistic, though. You might have to use a controller (unless Genesis emulators have the option to use a mouse as a lightgun) and the digitized graphics are the grainiest thing you've ever seen. It's a lot better on MAME.

Mickey to Donald Magical Adventure 3 looks kind of funky... more of an adventure game rather than a full on platformer? I liked Magical Quest a fair bit back in the day. A played a few of those Disney platformers again with some past monthly theme we had I believe, some good stuff there. But Capcom's Aladdin still blows most of them away for me.

What platform does she prefer to play on?
She likes SNES a lot. She is Genesis friendly for sure though. She is willing to try others
Her main requirement is at least some level of colorful style (bonus points for cuteness.) So Mario and Secret of Mana (which we are co-oping right now.) Demon Souls would be a no-go.
toei It really is cuteness level. Although she is a fan of the Simpsons, so that could work.
