That first one is excellent. I hear similarities to the Ys 6 intro released over 15 years later. Falcom really had a distinctive musical style.

Makes me wonder if some full PC-88 music library rip is out there, haha... so much of it is amazing and unexplored to me. I like that it's basically the closest thing to Genesis/FM sound too.

Isn't the better sounding version PC-98?

PC-88 PC-98
... Me right now.
I figured revisions of the PC-88 were a thing but never realized it was a simple number change, at least for some upgrade I gather... lol.

Yeah, the PC-98 line was a big upgrade over the PC-88.
This is what a PC 88 game looks like:
They relied heavily on dithering, and probably didn't look too bad with the right monitors.
And this what the PC-98 could do:
It wasn't good at animation or scrolling, but it could handle amazing illustrations, and like you said, the sound is very similar to a Genesis.

Guess it's kind of like the variants of the Amiga and how that evolved. It's probably moreso PC-98 stuff that I've both seen and heard that leaves a nice impression. Must be where a lot of those adult VN's with epicly good OST's tend to be too, haha.

Dayum, zophar is so old school I forget about it sometimes. Guessing it's not a complete library though?
