Oh, I've definitely looked at others, too. I think it may be that I really hit that gen hard - it's a time period where I started to have a bit more money, and I especially finished all the big RPGs of the time. Not that I'm necessarily looking for RPGs, though. Games started to get quite a bit longer overall then, too.
I do agree that PS2/GC/XBOX is where you really started to feel the codification of the games we play today. It wasn't as wildly experimental as the PSX era, where everyone was just trying to figure out how to effectively tackle 3D space. We've been building on much of the PS2 template for decades at this point.

We've been building on much of the PS2 template for decades at this point. Agreed. It's been diminishing returns since the 6th gen, creatively speaking. Diminishing returns since the 7th gen, graphically speaking.

Yeah, I've said as much before. PS2 is the beginning of the modern era. The Dreamcast is the last transitional console, in that it still had a lot of arcade DNA and yet it was starting to push towards PS2-style games as well. I like both a lot.

Yep, you're right - it has a lot of enhanced PS1 games on it, but also started pushing out great PS2-style stuff as well. And then there's stuff that it has all its own, since Sega wasn't completely dead yet and churning out arcade and original titles. It's a fun system that's sadly overlooked more now since many of its biggest exclusives have all been ported by now. (A bit of a parallel with the Wii U there, I suppose.)
Also, I still think it looks fantastic through a VGA box on a CRT monitor. Pretty, pretty stuff. Boot up Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive 2 LE and it still impresses.

Let's not forget 6th gen is also when Xbox debuted... changing PC gaming forever as a result. For better or worse, it's debatable.
