The theme for November and December is "Seventh Generation Games". We are playing video games released during the seventh generation of the video game medium. According to Wikipedia, the "seventh generation" is defined as occurring from November 22, 2005 (360 released) to November 18, 2012 (Wii U released).

So is desmume-0.9.13 still the best DS emulator?
Let's see, guess this is all I had noted down for this theme and my ideas: PS3/360 - Soma Bringer - SMT's/3DS stuff (maybe some of these count? But Soma Bringer is my #1 RPG priority now)
The new addition is that I plan to play Armored Core: For Answer. This is why I didn't want to go too hard with playing Last Raven when I beat Nexus a month ago or whatever. So I'll get back to Last Raven another day. I think now it'll be cool to hit up three different generations of AC in the same year, since the awesome AC6 dropped in 2023. That said I can't remember AC4 much because it was so painfully easy. Apparently, For Answer is one of the hardest entries in the series, so that's some interesting whiplash. I was just about to say that it was also Hidetaka Miyazaki's directorial debut, but now I'm seeing him credited for AC4 as well all of a sudden? I don't recall that being easy prior knowledge before, weird. Anyways I'm optimistic that it's an improvement over AC4. Let's just hope it doesn't expect me to import an old save with AC parts and money... I played AC4 on the 360, I'll be playing AC:FA on the PS3.

So is desmume-0.9.13 still the best DS emulator? For Windows you want DeSmuME or melonDS. By the way, DeSmuME can upscale DS 3D graphics:fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/desmume#upscaling-3d-graphics>Soma Bringer No idea what you'll think of this one. For me it was a great mix of Xenoblade Chronicles, Diablo, and Secret of Mana. Caveat being, I beat this game co-op... but I would have played it single player. Just keep in mind the beginning area is kinda boring and tutorial-y. It picks up from there and continues to get better and better. If you enjoy optional hard bosses and loot, you'll have a double blast. This game also has an outstanding, truly excellent OST. >3DS stuff
That is 8th gen.
On DS I do think you'd also like Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. There are some ninja games and not-just-Castlevania metroidvania games on DS as well, if anybody wants I'll elaborate. >Armored Core: For Answer That will be an interesting read. Wonder how its difficulty will fare against the almighty Amored Core VI?

Eh I think by "3DS stuff" I was just rolling up the two in my head as one system. I know most of those SMT's are older and qualify.
Soma Bringer just looks like handheld Xenoblade in all but name and I know Tetsuya Takahashi's wife did some writing for it (she worked on Xenogears and Xenosaga Ep1 too). It'll probably be a home run for me. Just been too lazy to emulate it all these years. That'll change now!

I know most of those SMT's are older and qualify. Some 3DS games are old enough to be HRG compliant yes, but 3DS is not 7th gen (per this theme). I know you're not big on handhelds, but there's big technical differences between the DS and 3DS. I wouldn't equate them as a homogeneous platform, even if the 3DS is retro-compatible with DS. The 7th gen DS SMT entries are: I really do hope you enjoy Soma Bringer, even if you don't come away loving it like I did. It's a really solid action-JRPG that more folks should have played by now. But hey, you can play it with big windows all up-res'd on your PC with a wireless controller, that's certainly snazzier than when I played it on a DS Lite.

There were quite a few ports from DS to 3DS, muddling the matter. Mostly Atlus that I'm thinking of with their enhanced versions of stuff like Etrian Odyssey, the SMT spinoffs, and Radiant Historia.

I think DS-to-3DS ports are fine for this theme, insofar as a given DS-to-3DS port itself is at least ten years old. I say that because these "ports" also contained newer material created after its DS original. There is only one Atlus DS-to-3DS port that presently fits that criteria; Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked (2011). ( Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl 2013 is a remake, not an enhanced port.) The rest of Atlus' DS-to-3DS ports are all newer than ten years old.

Is it weird that the 3DS already feels like forever ago?
