Usually listening to someone’s dreams is tedious (“It was like you were there except not.”, “It felt so real.”, “and then all my teeth fell out.”, etc). However due to the prevailing enthusiasm for retro games I think dreams about imaginary games might be an exception. I’ll go first:
1995
I was playing a platformer on my NES that looked an awful lot like Super Mario 3, complete with an overworld map, tiled graphics, and a similar color palette. The most pronounced differences were that the main character wielded a baton as a weapon. Also he boarded a rocket ship transporting him to the moon where he fought enemies in a Mosque-looking palace.
1998
I played a light gun arcade game where you shot solid gold Terminator endoskeletons in hell. If you beat the high score, the arcade machine would dispense a prize in a compartment below the coin slot kind of like a soda vending machine.
1999
I arrived at my aunt’s house to discover she bought a virtual reality machine. It was awfully similar to a high end virtual reality set up from today, except with peripherals worn on one’s chest and legs in addition to what was basically Power Gloves and a headset. When I put the helmet on my head it transported me to something like Starship Troopers in a shopping mall. Aliens scurried around everywhere, terrorizing civilians. They looked like an unholy cross between a xenomorph and the cockroach guy from Men In Black. Me and a squad of space marine-looking guys flew around in jetpacks slaughtering the aliens and saving people.

Interesting topic. I can only remember two video game related dreams right now, both also from the '90s.
1995 = I dreamed I had a job cleaning Mother Brain's glass housing (the clear shield that encapsulates her). Except in the dream, the glass housing was massive, and it was taking me hours to wipe it clean (I had to climb around it like a small mountain). In the dream it felt like I cleaned that glass forever, but the dream was probably five minutes long.
1997 = I dreamed Nintendo released a 3rd person shooter styled Metroid on N64, and it was awesome. Unfortunately I had to wait 13 years before Nintendo actually released a 3rd person shooting Metroid. And unfortunately said release wasn't awesome.
Weird that both my dreams were related to Metroid.

Dreams... can't explain them. lmao The easy main one that always comes to mind for me, the N64 had or was about to come out. So this was probably somewhere in 1996-1997. I dreamed that I had one and was playing Mario 64, but in my head it was this weird pseudo 2.5D style game (ironically a style I tend to hate nowadays). Everything about this dream was so realistic though, my room was perfect and nothing about the dream dipped into the supernatural. So when I finally woke up, I excitedly jumped out of my bed and looked straight forward to my TV and systems, ready to play Mario 64 again! ... except it wasn't there of course.

When I was heavy into MMOs, I would regularly dream about being in a VR-esk MMO world, that functioned at a level I think we are still unable to achieve. For some reason, though, despite the vast realism in movement and communication, this world always had the aesthetics of Phantasy Star Online, chunky jaggies and everything. I wasn't even playing PSO at the time, either. Some day, this dream will be a reality.

Does this count? I'm sorry, I had to.

Last night I dreamed that Chibby's younger brother was playing a Fire Emblem game on the Wii. However, the start of the game had a Sega logo on it. The screen where you managed battles showed a vast map written on parchment with entire provinces labeled in a rustic script. It was as if you were a general managing entire brigade sized elements across the country rather than individual troops. It zoomed in on one town to show some centaur troops milling about. The artwork looked good, but they hopped around like cardboard cutouts from Paper Mario. Also the background music was a theme from Golden Sun for some reason.

Recently I dreamed I was playing a 90s SEGA 3D fighter that doesn't exist. It wasn't a revelation, I was just playing it distractedly one moment, possibly at the arcades, and then realized "hey, no one knows about this game". It had Virtua Fighter's basic setup - punch/kick/block, punch+block to throw, high/mid/low attack & defense, etc. The visuals weren't particularly attractive, though - I vaguely remember a bunch of construction workers in yellow hard hats (lol) and a lot of wood in the background.
A weird dream, cause I love SEGA's 3D fighters yet this one wasn't too hot.

Well, that was trippy. Dreamed Nintendo was announcing some sort of game with Mario and crew, except they all had gold Toad hats on (along with the rest of a village). It was nighttime, with the light coming from a central fire and small torches and such on the houses. Apparently Mario starts cooking up a mushroom dish as part of a competition (not creepy at all with the Toads, right?), and something apparently starts to go awry, bringing shadows to life. That apparently included some sort of shadow dragon that emerged slowly as the fumes filled the air, and it started burning the village. Then it got off-track and didn't resemble anything gaming anymore.
No, I do not imbibe mind-altering substances. Dreams are just weird, y'all.

This sounds like a better plot than any of the Paper Mario games have.
