So today I turned on my Xbox 360, with the wireless dongle still in it, and the Xbox 360 froze during the boot up animation. That swirly ball thing I mean, the animation just froze halfway. I took the dongle out, turned it on again, and the Xbox 360 booted up just fine. Then I put the dongle in while the 360 was at the dashboard, but the dongle refused to sync to the wireless controllers. Even though previously it had. And then, even stranger, after taking the dongle out, the 360 suddenly regained the ability to connect to wireless controllers again. I mean without the dongle. It's acting normal again. I have no idea what's going on with this console, but I'm glad at the moment it has mysteriously repaired itself. I will still buy a spare bluetooth daughter board for this console regardless, just in case.

Oh... hmm... I wonder if something in the system cache got wonky? That is weird, though. There's a place to clear it out under the storage options.
I think that module is 2.4 GHz wireless, but not actually Bluetooth. I remember that being an issue when I wanted to potentially use a 360 controller with an Android tablet.

Interesting that it's standard wireless. I don't know if the cache would affect the sync capability or not... but who knows? This whole mess with the controllers/dongle and connecting/not connecting to the console has made absolutely zero sense to me.
