Well toei alludes to some other personal stuff perhaps, or I get that other people have other priorities.
I never want to fall into the "time" trap though. This hobby shouldn't be a job or stressful, it'll never be a race to get through games to me. It feels challenging as someone that loves both retro games and keeps up with the current, but I think I still manage a good balance. Not to mention how crazy my life has been in recent years at times, I've still managed to get in some massive RPG's or shows. Yeah I do mentally prepare myself for bigger time sinks but I never want that to keep me at bay from enjoying something. Chipping away a little bit at a time, or only playing 1-2 games max at once, and just being consistent... works for me.
I know other priorities and hobbies factor in though. I generally play games more than watching stuff for the most part, but I know other people could be a reverse of that. I think gaming being a more active/engaging hobby that demands more attention is good for me. If I just watch shows or movies for weeks on end, that's when I personally start to feel unproductive haha.

I treasure how comparatively "short" retro RPGs are. And of course those are the ones I like best.

I still keep a list of RPGs to play from back when I was active. I was thinking I could play Exile 2 somewhere in October or November, since it's basically a RPG sidescroller, and it's apparently just 2-3 hours long.
Here's the full list:
Aretha (SNES) Brave Prove (PSX) Dark Half (SNES) Exile 2: Wicked Phenomenon (PC-Engine CD) Far East of Eden Zero (SNES) Glory of Heracles IV (SNES) Growlanser 5: Heritage of War (PS2) Last Bible 3 (SNES) Linkle Liver (River?) Story (SAT) Shining Force Neo (PS2) Star Cruiser (Sega Genesis) Star Cruiser 2 (PC-98) Super Robot Taisen OG: Original Generations (PS2) Tenshi no Uta (SNES) Tsugunai: Atonement (PS2)
The majority are fan-translated. Note that this only includes games that are currently available to me; I'd add Dragon Quest XI and a few others otherwise, though not many, as I'm not too interested in more recent Japanese RPGs.

Disregarding my daily adult responsibilities, I've also got quite a few other hobbies besides just playing video games. That's why beating even a 30 hour RPG can take me a month. Even if I'm really into a game, the longest stretch I can stand these days is 3 hours. So even if I did that stretch every single day, that's still only 21 hours a week at maximum gaming mode. But at my normal cruising speed, I'm averaging 10-15 hours a week nowadays. Again, not saying I don't love video games, of course I still do, but one should find more to do in life besides saturate one's mind in distraction pixels at every given opportunity.

I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but the difficulty boost added to the localized Wicked Phenomenon is downright nasty. Thanks Working Designs. You're not going to truly become aware of it until the final dungeon though.

I'm going to play the unWorked hack or whatever it's called, that returns all values to the Japanese version's.

Yeah, I've played through both the original way and the UnWorked version, and it's insane how much easier the Japanese version is. It's... almost disappointing? But it definitely makes the experience light and breezy.

Exile itself was pretty easy, actually. Great game too.

I liked Exile a lot. I wish the first XZR game got a translation, too.
