EX - What ARE the genres you avoid, anyway? If you already mentioned it, my bad, I haven't noticed it. I guess I'm a renaissance gamer because I play almost every genre. But the few I don't play much would be sports games, puzzle games (like Tetris or Puyo Puyo, and 4X strategy. Another nightmare candidate for you Toei: It's tough at the very least.

Not only have I played Ninja Crusaders, I wrote the HG101 article for it (it was my second ever I think, so it might be a bit clumsy in parts). I'm rather fond of the game, actually. I find that it's quite a bit more predictable and fair than a Ninja Gaiden, so a methodical approach works well. There's just one enemy type later on that needs to be dealt with in an unexpected way (you have to actually go back a few steps and it just leaves you alone, otherwise it kills you).

toei: Yep, I've definitely played (and beaten) a lot of Shining Force. I took down the first two games on Genesis, and played through the Sega CD game as well. I guess that leaves me the entirety of Shining Force III and the third on Game Gear. There's something about that series that calls to me more than the pure SRPG experiences. An adjacent series, Arc the Lad, has also seen me beat all of the mainline strategy entries. I skipped End of Darkness, because bleah.

Yeah, End of Darkness is basically official fan-fiction. It's not the worst thing ever, but it's like... a 5/10 or something. Safely avoidable.
EX - The only sports games I can think of that I really like are the Kunio-kun Dodge Ball games. Ever played one of them? If not, I recommend the Neo Geo one.

The NES version of Super Dodge Ball is still one of my absolute favorite games to play through on occasion. Great music, and I just like the feel of it over all the other games in the series.

Do either of those dodge ball games have a campaign of any sort?
-
Sarge some ideas...
Normal = Fallout (PC) or Prince of Persia (SNES) or Shadow Hearts (PS2) Hard = Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (PS2) or Thief Gold (Windows) or Umjammer Lammy (PS1) Nightmare = Mighty Bomb Jack (NES) or SMT: Nocturne (PS2) or I Wanna Be the Guy (Windows)

I definitely thought about Nocturne for Nightmare mode. I might also consider The 7th Saga.
I think the GBA dodgeball game has a campaign, if memory serves.

Oh man, it wouldn't be my first rodeo, but SMTIII on Hard mode and demonless sure is tempting.

Unless I've missed something, this is where we are now...
Dunpeal -Normal = ? -Hard = ? -Nightmare = ?
Ex -June = Normal = F.E.A.R. (PC) -July = Hard = Super Dodge Ball (SNES) -August = Nightmare = Severance: Blade of Darkness (PC)
Sarge -Normal = ? -Hard = ? -Nightmare = ?
Toei -Normal = ? -Hard = ? -Nightmare = Shinobi (PS2)
Tsumuri -Nightmare = Shinobi (PS2) -Nightmare = Viewtiful Joe (GC) -Nightmare = ?
IIRC I've offered suggestions for everyone so far (if I missed you let me know). So Tsumuri, Toei, and Sarge can offer suggestions for Dunpeal. Dunpeal, Toei, Tsumuri can offer suggestions for Sarge. Sarge, Tsumuri, and Dunpeal can offer suggestions for Toei. And Dunpeal, Toei, and Sarge can offer suggestions for Tsumuri. After that we should all have enough candidates to pick from to wrap up the selection process!
