Guess what, y'all? Metal Storm is getting a re-release. While I won't be snagging it (I actually am lucky enough to own the original), I find these great games popping up to be a breath of fresh air. Now someone needs to do this for Little Samson, like, yesterday. retro-bit.com/metal-stormYou know what, though, that figurine looks awfully cool.

That's actually pretty damned cool. Yeah it'd be good to see some of the really expensive NES carts get this treatment. Although for collectors owning the legit expensive carts, they might not like that so much. I wonder if it'd affect the market value of the real deals?

I don't think so, to be honest. I've noticed digital-only releases not really deflating the older games, so I think collectors are generally going to want the original carts more.
That being said, I can think of one instance where a game did affect the value of the existing games, and that was the PS4 port/remaster of .hack//G.U. from PS2. The value on those games dropped considerably, from around $50-75 CIB each to $15-20. In fact, looking at the prices now, I might should consider snagging the first two games to have the whole set just for completeness. It would be completely redundant, though, given that I did get that PS4 remaster.
I don't see this much on the NES/SNES side, though. Nintendo stuff just seems to go gangbusters, which helps my collection's value, but makes it awfully hard to track down stuff I'd still like without selling a kidney.

Well, I ordered a Genesis Mini. I saw the box in a video and I couldn't resist it.

Heh, I'm glad I'm not the only one prone to such nostalgia. I was confronted with that SNES Classic in-store, and after waffling for a bit, couldn't help myself.
You've got to think someone will exploit the system, too.
(I also saw a Legends Flashback Blast! mini-console that had some old-school games on it today, but looked it up and apparently it's an AtGames joint, and Atari 2600 versions only. Plus, no return policy at this store, so I wasn't even going to drop the $1.50 on it.)

I'll be getting a Genesis mini for my nephew probably.
Sadly, I hear the new exclusive Tetris on it kind of sucks.

Well, as y'all can guess, hacking work has already begun. I wouldn't be surprised to see a publicly-available hack within a month, if that. Also, apparently the specs on this device are near identical to the one in the NES/SNES Classic. It's an Allwinner chip, an A33 as opposed to the R16, but apparently they sport the same processor cores and GPU. So when it does get hacked, expect similar performance. Of course, you'll likely get the chance to use M2's emulation solution for Genesis games, which might be appealing. modmyclassic.com/2019/09/20/sega-mega-drive-genesis-project-lunar-hack-update/

Oh I'm sure it'll get hacked soon enough. Hopefully M2's emulation is a bit more consistent than Canoe.

From what I've looked at, it's excellent on the graphical side. Tone-wise, it sounds good, although perhaps not as beefy as the ideal VA6 model Genesis (more like a Model 2, I suppose, and also a few audio quirks with a few games like Comix Zone), but it's still that sound delay that would kill me. Others might not really care, but 10-11 frames of audio lag is a lot.
I will definitely be interested to see how solid the emulation is for other games. It has always seemed to me that Genesis emulation tended to be a lot more solid. I suspect that's because the 68000 processor is so well known and documented. But folks still have all sorts of issues nailing the YM2612 emulation. I still think Kega Fusion is one of the absolute best out there when it comes to Genesis emulation.
Canoe ends up falling into a sort of 90% case. It works well for a lot of stuff, but you have to patch a few games to get past some emulation issues. I do wonder if part of that is due to them bringing the lag down on that Allwinner chipset? Prioritizing speed over accuracy, basically.

10-11 frames of audio lag is a lot Yeah that's a hard pass for me. Agreed 100%. It's what I use for PC emulation of the Genesis. If there were an Android port, I'd use it there too. Allwinner must be dirt cheap or something, for both Nintendo and Sega to use it. Despite its shortcomings.
