That's true. Look at what happened to the PS Classic, as Xeogred pointed out.

NEC Personal Computer is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the PC-8001. As such they’ve announced the PC-8001 Mini, or “PasocomMini PC-8001".
The hardware is being developed by HAL Laboratory. In HAL'searlier days they developed numerous titles on the PC-8001. This isn’t the first mini hardware made by HAL Laboratory, as they also did the “PasocomMini MZ-80C” which released in May 2017.
You can connect to a screen with HDMI and also connect a mouse and keyboard with USB.
The initial included titles:
More titles can be downloaded later.
This will surely never leave Japan, and unfortunately for PC88 fans, the PC-8001 Mini will only be produced in about 500 units.

Huh, that's pretty wild.
In other mini-console news, the TG-16 mini is getting more games.
- Tengai Makyou II MARU - Galaga '88 - Dragon Spirit - Genpei Toumaden - Splatterhouse - Valkyrie no Densetsu - Seirei Senshi Spriggan - Spriggan mkII
That's both Spriggan games, for those keeping score. This thing keeps getting more tempting...
Also, M2 is doing the emulation, which means it should be a very solid device.

This makes it even more baffling that they're not including Legendary Axe. Who in their right mind would want to play Genpei Toumaden instead? Splatterhouse was a necessary addition, though, as was Tengai Makyou 2 for Japanese players.

Maybe they'll toss it in before it's all said and done? Sure hope so.

Folks are giving impressions of the Genesis Mini. Apparently it's solid overall, but there's a killer, deal-breaking issue for me: audio lag. It drove me crazy on the NES Classic (you can put the core on an SNES Classic), and it would drive me nuts here as well.

I watched the My Life in Gaming review this morning. It was interesting to hear those two kind of knocking on some recent M2 stuff in general lately, when I know they've usually been known for rock solid quality and accuracy. Still, I'll probably get one of these for my nephew and Christmas, him and my sister will probably have loads of fun with it. It's us hardcore guys that grew up with the original hardware that might notice the little nuisances, but yeah.

Honestly, it has felt like M2 has been slipping a bit lately. Not sure what the deal is.

SargeAudio lag would kill it for me too, no thanks. Maybe someone will make a better bootleg Genesis emulator that can be backdoor loaded into the Mini.

I bet someone will throw RetroArch on there if it's hackable. And the cores are very good in there; Genesis Plus GX is rock solid.
