Was there ever a lull where Neo Geo was old, but not old enough to be cool, and it was possible to get it for cheap? Not that I know of. For as long as I can remember, Neo Geo has been prohibitively expensive. I literally have never known a single person in real life who has owned a Neo Geo.

Well, a lot of the earlier games are still fairly reasonable in price compared to their original list price, but a lot of them are super, super expensive. Stuff like Fatal Fury, cart-only is around $35 right now. But if you want something like Mark of the Wolves, you're going to be out almost $4000 for the English version, and even the Japanese AES version is over $1000. That's why a lot of folks go for the MVS versions, where I see an eBay listing for $400.

It sucks there's no good modern alternatives for the N64 memory cards. Looking around it seems like a lot of people recommend that 4-1 memory card plus, but I have one and don't think I'd recommend it. Pretty sure most of my data got corrupted off and on back in the day and the switch on the back is awkward. I guess I'll just try to find some good official trustworthy ones on ebay, like I did with the S-video cable recently. Amazon's a bit too risky. How's the state of that Saturn SD chip mod, Rhea? Maybe I'll reconsider my stance on the Saturn if that's an easy Everdrive-ish solution to playing its library. I own two modded ones but it's quite a process to simply burn games and then hope they work. Something like an SD mod would be way more convenient. This on top of how overwhelming the Japanese library is for it, I was kind of writing this system off entirely for awhile honestly. But never say never I guess, heh.
Outside of these two systems, I think emulation is perfectly fine for the rest. And I still like collecting for the PSX, on top of the PSN library, it's just way easier to get games for the Sony systems.

I'd wait a bit for the Saturn Satiator. I know I am.
To clarify a bit more, getting a Rhea/Phoebe tends to be really tough, given the way the guy takes his orders. I know they're a quality product, but I want to see what Prof. Abrasive's product ends up looking like before it's all done. That one just plugs into the video expansion slot on the back, as opposed to getting into the innards of the system. (Not that I haven't done that twice with my current system already.)

I already have a mod chipped Saturn and a pseudo-saturn cartridge, but I want the Saturn Satiator anyway. I just love Sega Saturn that much.

Yeah, I'm set up almost the same as you, just with one of the AR 4M+ carts. I still want it, because the Saturn is a great system, and one of the few where emulation is still slightly off.

I looked into it and am very confused by what a "Video CD Card" is or was for the system?

It was an add-on card that let the Saturn handle Video CDs better. Basically, it's an MPEG-1 decoder. It... didn't set the world on fire. The Satiator plugs into that Video CD expansion slot, but doesn't actually emulate the functions of that card. (Not that most people would ever care.)
