Do you guys want me to go ahead and create the May SRPG thread now, as opposed to waiting? It's not like the April FPDC thread is seeing much action.

Don't reckon it will hurt. I probably will slide under the wire for FPDC month, though.

Jul - Brand New Déjà Vu Aug - White Whales Sep - Superhero September Oct - Horrorble Games Nov - Arcade Shmups Dec - Unfinished Business
Were we still set on all these? It kind of hit me how Brand New Déjà Vu, White Whales, and Unfinished Business... all kind of overlap in ways. Guess it can't hurt to have a few more casual months, but yeah. I don't have any good alternatives at the moment, I just keep thinking I want to throw Vagrant Story in one of those months for something I played, loved, but never finished, so I'll be doing it over.
Trials of Mana might have my attention in August once the Collection of Mana physical release drops. This would be another replay of SD3 but with the new localization.
Chrono Trigger I've got the DS version to check out and could fit in easily somewhere. Keep thinking I want to play this and FF6 back to back for old times sake! For FF6 I want to finally challenge the run a little and ban magic on everyone except Terra, Celes, Relm and the old dude, the obvious magic users. But everyone else being able to cast whatever just makes the game so much of a cakewalk.

Jul - Brand New Déjà Vu Aug - White Whales Sep - Superhero September Oct - Horrorble Games Nov - Arcade Shmups Dec - Unfinished Business Were we still set on all these? Far as I remember the Club Retro regulars agreed to keep things as they are. Although for October we decided to add "Horror games" as an alternate to "Horrorble Games", in case you don't want to play terrible games for lulz.
The way the three you mentioned differentiate:
Brand New Déjà Vu = Beat games you've already beaten before; for nostalgia's sake, or perhaps to do better than you did the first time. I plan to replay some of my old favorites, but with twists.
White Whales = This is about games that defeated you years ago, but now you'll finally take revenge and beat them.
Unfinished Business = Got some save files for half beaten games you keep meaning to finish? That's what this month is for; finishing what you started.
-
I have been keeping a little file for ideas for next year's Club Retro themes.

2020 WIP Ideas: - N64 month - Puzzle Games
Playing the Lolo games right now makes me want to force everyone to play some 8/16bit puzzle games.
Also going to jot this down for myself:
Aug - White Whales - Jurassic Park (SNES) - Gradius V (PS2)

I was thinking about the Horrorble theme. So, it's cool to play both 'bad games' as well as 'horror' games? Do people who play horror games that are also considered bad receive extra brownie points and cookies?
Also, if we can define what exactly makes a game bad, that would be helpful. I get it that Superman 64 is bad, but what about games that just received mixed rating and are probably just kind of mediocre as opposed to awful and broken?

Like 70-80% of games are kind of mediocre. Of course, you can't know until you've actually played it, so just based on reputation. And yeah, if it's both horrible and horror-themed, it's just... even more fitting.

Yeah, that's kinda of what I had in mind. Either horror-based games, or just horrible games (either known from personal experience or by reputation). I plan on combining both with one particular NES entry. Basically, if it's a game that the Internet has dogpiled on, it's fair game. Ex : I'd definitely be down for a mech month. Wish it had won out over on RB when you put the options up. Should we consider, instead of slotting themes in, perhaps actually voting on themes on a month-by-month basis?

Here's one for a Horrorble Horror combo...
I mean I know these games have a niche' fanbase, but it was atrocious to play to me. I wanted to like it, because they're done by the Silent Hill 1 director. But yikes...
