So, it's cool to play both 'bad games' as well as 'horror' games? That's right; October is a dual-themed month. I'll mail you some extra "brown cookies" as a reward. Like toei said, we're talking abysmally bad games. Like "How could they ever have thought that would sell?!" bad. Like Plumbers Don't Wear Ties-tier bad. So bad, the game almosts wraps back around to being good by sheer absurdity factor.
Or just play any ol' game you think is crap so you can rip on it. The entire concept is 100% subjective. I personally plan to play games for both themes for October. I'd definitely be down for a mech month. Wish it had won out over on RB when you put the options up. It was pearls to swine my friend, pearls to swine. Considering right now there's only about four of us currently participating in Club Retro, I think a vote system might be overkill. We can certainly all pitch ideas for next year (in this thread) and choose the ones we unilaterally agree on. I think that would work personally.
Now if for some reason the unwashed internet ever discovers this forum and we end up with dozens of active Club Retro members, then yes, voting will likely be a thing that has to happen.

As far as bad PS2 horror games go, you probably can't do worse than this: Siren definitely has a following and the reviews weren't so bad, so that's debatable. Didn't try it myself. - By the way, I think that themes that give people as wide a selection of games as possible might be better. Dreamcast/PS2/N64/etc. months would be great. Horrorble still sounds good to me though.

I think that themes that give people as wide a selection of games as possible might be better. Dreamcast/PS2/N64/etc. months would be great. Doing months focused on somewhat niche platforms works okay. Neither the N64 or Dreamcast have huge libraries, so they work in that capacity. But I don't think it works well to be overly vague with the theme, as that begins to lack distinct character. For example the PS2 has a gargantuan library. Thus I think a blank check "PS2" month is too wide open to encourage a communal spirit, one where we're all relatively playing retro games in the same vein. I think the best themes fit a halfway point of being inclusive while also housing a tangible identity that gives that month a distinct flavor.

Okay, seems reasonable.

Yeah, good point, let's just try and strike a happy medium.

Ex suggested we should start setting up the schedule and brainstorm a selection of themes for the coming year.
Recently, I think some of us liked the idea of some of these topics...
- N64 Month - Saturn Month - Puzzle Games
Here was the 2018-2019 lineups, so we don't double dip unless we want to on something specific:
2019 Club Retro Schedule Jan - 1st & 2nd Generation Gaming Feb - Fan Translations Mar - Master System Apr - First Person Dungeon Crawlers May - SRPGs Jun - Irem Games Jul - Brand New Déjà Vu Aug - White Whales Sep - Superhero September Oct - Horrorble Games Nov - Arcade Shmups Dec - Unfinished Business
2018: Sacnoth September
October Horror Natsume November*
Data East December
* Natsume month is still one of my favorites!

Nice start Xeogred. These were ideas floating around in my head: March Mech Madness Tardy to the Party (Play widely-considered classic-greats you missed.) N64 month Puzzle Games November Ninjas! Metroidvanias Dreamcast December 8-bit Capcom Games (NES/GB/GBC/Famicom, etc.) Star Trek X Star Wars (play games from both series) European exclusives (as in retro games that never appeared in USA or Japan).

Love those ideas. March Mech Madness - Tons of mecha games, lots of options for everyone Tardy to the Party (Play widely-considered classic-greats you missed.) - Nice N64 month - Yup Puzzle Games - Yup November Ninjas! - Ryu approved Metroidvanias - Doing a deep dive on the non-Metroid/Igavania's would be cool Dreamcast December - Ah yes, we were thinking DC too I think. I might take this over a Saturn month, DC emulation is probably easier. I'm not super big or sold on the DC, but maybe I could be proved wrong. 8-bit Capcom Games (NES/GB/GBC/Famicom, etc.) - I'd truly have to play Bionic Commando. For real though I'm sure this well goes deep, lots of options. Star Trek X Star Wars (play games from both series) - Grew up on SW and its games, but I'm not sure I've played a single Trek game... European exclusives (as in retro games that never appeared in USA or Japan). - Definitely some potential
Maybe it'd be funny to do "cute" games next October.

Weren't we supposed to do a Game Gear month at some point?
