I did try out that SNES Gundam fighting game Ex kept recommending, though briefly. It's definitely fluid, and mechanically above-average for a SNES fighter. I don't really like robots in fighting games, though, so I don't see myself playing it more. I never got to check out Shatterhand, but I'd still like to eventually.

Natsume made another SNES fighter using the same engine: This has some robot fighters, but it also has non-robot fighters... It's worth a try IMO. Doubly so if you're a fan of the source material.

I tried it too, right after the Gundam game. Seemed a bit weaker. I couldn't find many special moves, it wasn't nearly as fluid, and the AI was extremely weak. I beat like 7 guys with mostly just strong attacks. Also, Sentai-style character are a bit too corny for my tastes. I like my fighting game characters to be cooler.

By the way, that game has what might be one of the most unbalanced fighting game characters ever in Ivan Ooze. Seriously, there's practically no way a human controlling him should lose.

I had a blast with Natsume this month and am glad my selfish idea for myself worked out for HRG, haha. There are times when Natsume were just as good, if not better than some of the classics from Konami, Capcom, Sunsoft, etc. At times they might slip into a B-grade tier area but overall, they have a lot of great NES games and are still way above average all around. I know there's more games from them on other platforms but I was really interested in their NES titles and they all rocked. I've still got Mitsume ga Tooru in my "now playing" folder for my NES emulation, so I'll be sure to get back to that one someday, the two levels I played were great.

I mean, Sunsoft was totally a B-Tier developer overall, too, even though NES fans seem to love some of their games.

I like Blaster Master even more than the original Metroid, so my loyalty to NES Sunsoft is very strong.

I like Blaster Master even more than the original Metroid, so my loyalty to NES Sunsoft is very strong. The only Sunsoft games I ever hear about as being great are Blaster Master and Batman NES. Meanwhile, most of their 16-bit titles are shaky, and those they outsourced but still published are often outright trash. The Albert Odyssey games look pretty great, but only the Saturn Gaiden's been translated (it's good). So what are the other big Sunsoft games that push them to A-Tier for you?

That's cool, I'm curious about this. I'm more familiar with the 16-bit generation and arcade games of that era, so for me they've never been a big name.
