Still need to hit up Tron Bonne. Tron Bonne is excellent. Definitely give it a try. Indeed, 'tis Ex approved.

I'll probably dig it a lot, it'll be fun to be back in that world. It's a real shame we didn't get a Legends game on PS2. X: Command Mission isn't too bad, but all those wasted resources on X7 and X8 would have been better spent on a PS2 Legends.

Given how much Inafune's stuff dropped off, I have to wonder if MML3 would have turned out decently, regardless.

Mike Matei was playing this recently... this seriously looks like one of the best shmups on the SNES. A hidden gem? Looks amazing.

Xeogred That's Super Aleste dude, it's pretty well-known. They just gave it the world's most generic title in America for some reason. It's a Compile shmup, with everything that entails. Definitely faster-paced than almost any other SNES shmup. And the good news is, if you like it, there's a ton more where it came from.

That explains it. Still don't think I've checked out the Aleste games but yeah, a lot of them sound excellent. Well, I've beaten MUSHA which is apparently related? And The Guardian Legend is loosely connected. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlesteIt was the speed there that impressed me the most, since SNES shmups have frequent slowdown. That looks super crispy and the graphics/music seem top notch.

Xeogred Yeah, MUSHA is an Aleste. There are 9 of these in total, and almost all of them had their names changed outside of Japan so it gets confusing. Guardian Legend is a sequel to Guardic, which isn't part of the Aleste series. It's a top-down shooter like most Compile games around that time, so it probably has things in common. Getting speed out of slow hardware is something Compile excelled at; the two Game Gear Aleste games are crazy impressive.

Ah I've seen this game before! I didn't know what it was called, I just knew it was that one game where you're in space and a space station slowly zooms in from afar.

the two Game Gear Aleste games are crazy impressive. Yes they are impressive! Very much Ex approved, I beat them both back in 2017. GG Aleste's a Japan-only GameGear shmup, developed and published by Compile in 1991. GG Aleste is an extremely competent shmup, one that transcends its platform limitations. There are plenty of stages, filled with a variety of enemies, and challenging bosses. Special weapons are fun, and level design variety is above average. The OST is pretty good, but the graphics are a tad plain (not bad though). Difficulty is balanced very well, not too hard or easy. I had a great time with GG Aleste, and I would recommend any GameGear owning shmup fan to import this. 8/10 Powerstrike II (AKA GG Aleste II) is a GameGear shmup, developed by Compile, and published by SEGA in 1993 (Japan) / 1994 (Europe). This is not to be confused with the Master System game of the same name - these are different games! Powerstrike II does everything its predecessor ( GG Aleste) did, but does nearly all of it better. The same fantastic shoot 'em up gameplay continues, the difficulty has been kicked up a notch, the OST is even better, but now the graphics are amazing. We're talking AAA graphics for what the GameGear could produce. My only complaints are the bonus levels aren't as fun as GG Aleste's, and there aren't as many stages as GG Aleste had. But those complaints are minor versus how awesome Powerstrike II is. Great stage designs, killer weapons, wicked bosses, everything a shmup lover could want. Seriously, if you own a GameGear and you enjoy shoot 'em ups, you simply most own GG Aleste II AKA Powerstrike II. 9/10
