Haven't they lost the source code to Panzer Dragoon Saga? That's what I heard, anyway.

Haven't they lost the source code to Panzer Dragoon Saga? That's what I heard, anyway. Would the game really be so hard to recreate from scratch? At least the music is still reusable.

Yeah, I've heard that. They can still emulate it, though; don't need the source for that. Whether they consider that worthwhile for a game that they can't port easily to another architecture, I don't know. But I'd think putting out the game, even in an unchanged state, would likely sell quite well.

Well, the Sega Ages Switch lines doesn't consist of remasters and the like, so they wouldn't just re-create the game. Unless you mean literally try to re-create it exactly as it was, which does seem like way too much work for that kind of release. Emulation would be an option, and M2's shown that they're good with that kind of stuff, though I wonder if that would allow them to add the little extras and feature that make this new line interesting? They'd have to basically hack the ISO. There's also the fact that I've always heard the game wasn't popular in Japan, and it was released in limited quantities in the West, which made it a kind of holy grail for the console but also must mean the actual sales must have been as limited as the release. I mean, it'd be nice, though, even if I think the game's overrated. I think the PDS universe, battle system and the basic concept of alternating between flying on your dragon and walking on foot could be used for an amazing sequel, though. One with a much larger world to explore, with more people and things of interest in it, a faster, more action-y battle system (I'd basically throw some Grandia 2 into the framework of PDS's battles, where shooting certain parts or certain enemies can delay or stop their turn, throw in some real-time dodging to make it feel more like a shooter, etc.), and a more unique story...

I meant recreate the game in the same vein as the HD remasters we've seen for so many other games. It wouldn't necessarily have to be an "Ages" title in that regard. I doubt SEGA would bother though, I think since Orta they've abandoned the franchise. I'm inclined to believe that PDS is overrated, as you say. Likely due to being a scarce release on an unpopular platform. I played through at least a third of PDS a few years ago, and found myself underwhelmed and bored with it. That said, PDS is unique enough (has a cool atmosphere) to deserve a second chance. There is an Android port of Yabause called uoYabause, so I may eventually start emulating Saturn games on my phone. If so, I'd be willing to give PDS another chance.

I really, really enjoy it. It isn't perfect, but it is like a 9/10 for me, barring one particular area I don't care for. I've beaten the game at least three times over the years, and it's actually not that hard to do since it can be finished in under 20 hours. I do believe a modern remake would help the game out significantly, because it definitely sports some creaky tech.

Shinobi never got a proper port (the Master System game was okay but it was pretty different), so that's the most interesting one to me.

Yeah good pick. I feel like I've played the arcade version somehow. Oh yeah -- Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.
