1. Have you ever felt guilty for something you did in a video game?
Allowing Yoshi to plunge to his doom to get that into that one bonus stage of Super Mario World. 2. What's the longest amount of time you've invested into a single game?
Counting replays, I have hundreds of hours in Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, Ys Book I & II, and Phantasy Star Online. 3. You're about to imprisoned for a decade for crimes against humanity (you performed a criminally bad Elvis impersonation at a children's hospital fund raising event). The judge says he'll allow you a single fourth generation console as entertainment during your imprisonment, with unlimited access to its entire library (including imports / fan translated games). What 4th gen console do you choose, and why?
SNES is the best console ever. Duh. 4. What's the most money you've ever spent on a single game? Was it worth it?
Got close to $300 with Panzer Dragoon Saga and (here's an oddball) Dungeon Explorer II. Worth it? I guess, they're both good games. 5. Have you ever had the hots for a video game character(s)? If so, who were they...
All Chrono Trigger girls, all Langrisser girls, Alis, Justin's mom, and: 6. Are you an early adopter of new console generations, or do you prefer to wait a few years?
Took me forever to get all the retro consoles I wanted, but I got a 3DS, Vita, Wii U, and Switch either at launch or around launch. 7. Do you generally rush through a game, or do you take your time and smell the pixels (so to speak)?I'm slow as hell. I like to take in the sights and sounds and appreciate all the game has to offer.

Counting replays, I have hundreds of hours in ... Phantasy Star Online. We should get everyone here together one day and play Blue Burst! I wish dude, that board is thousands of dollars Espgaluda was the board I bought. I sold it though, since the ps2 port is insanely good. I have had the chance to play Futari boards a few times since then luckily.

1. Does cheating count? Otherwise, no.
2. I'm sure I put over 100 hours into both the first Borderlands and Mortal Kombat 9 for PS3 back around 2011.
3. The Super Nintendo, I suppose. I have the most fond memories of that one.
4. I bought a copy of Metal Storm for $100 on impulse at an expo a few years back. Totally not worth it. It's a fine game, but paying triple digits (even if just only) for a video game is pretty absurd in my book. I'm a cheap bastard.
5. No. I can think of some tv and movie characters that would qualify, but I think cartoon/video game people are too abstract for that. I'm more the actual human being type.
6. I usually wait. Saves money.
7. Neither, really. I aim to complete the game at a fairly natural pace, whatever that happens to be.

I felt like I had to beat every game I played. This was an issue I suffered from for quite a long time, especially in my '20s. Just getting myself to realize that not every game is worth beating, despite the time already invested. I found it difficult to put away a game I'd been playing due to the inherent sunk cost fallacy, and also perhaps felt as if the game was beating me, should I not finish it.
Finally I admitted to myself that most games are not worth beating. And quality over quantity is what really matters.
It's very liberating to realize when a video game is failing you as its player, and then be able to walk away with zero regret. Sure there are occasions where we all judge a game too quickly, and perhaps later come back to it and realize it's actually a decent experience after all. But if we're being honest with ourselves, those games are the exception, far from the rule. The longer you interact with this medium, the more quickly you are able to gauge a game's inherent worth in a shorter amount of time.

1. Have you ever felt guilty for something you did in a video game?I'll feel bad for five seconds if I kill innocent NPCs sometimes, but full on guilty? Nah. 2. What's the longest amount of time you've invested into a single game?
I don't know honestly. I puts hundreds of hours into various versions of PSO so probably that. There are plenty of nostalgic games I revisit every year though and ones that get played semi-regularly like Doom so I don't know how it all adds up ultimately. I've also got a few hundred hours in both Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky. Space exploration is my zen place. 3. Genesis is my one true love. There are plenty of games I'd miss on the other consoles but you can all keep your JRPGs, weirdos. 4. What's the most money you've ever spent on a single game? Was it worth it?
$80 on Metal Warriors for SNES. And yeah, it rules. 5. Have you ever had the hots for a video game character(s)? If so, who were they...
I just spent a decent amount of time thinking about this but no one comes to mind. 6. Are you an early adopter of new console generations, or do you prefer to wait a few years?
I usually wait until the last year or two of the generation if I'm even interested in any games I can't just get on PC. I pretty much never get every console in a generation, especially in the modern age where there's so much overlap. 7. Do you generally rush through a game, or do you take your time and smell the pixels (so to speak)? If I'm loving the core gameplay I'll try to digest every bit of the game. If I'm not that jazzed by it I'll skip whatever parts I'm not particularly interested in. Finally I admitted to myself that most games are not worth beating. And quality over quantity is what really matters.

This is my mindset as well. I always see people stressing out over their backlogs while they force themselves to slog through a game they're not even enjoying and that kind of thing is crazy to me. My time is precious, I'm going to spend it enjoying myself. If I've played a game long enough to get the gist of how it works and it's not my thing, I feel like I've already gotten as much out of the experience as I'm ever going to.

I still have a hard time letting go of games I'm not enjoying. This doesn't happen with games that are flat-out bad, or just too far from my tastes, because then I'll play them for 5 minutes and put them away. But there are games that seem good at first, or at least decent, then turn out not to be, and I always feel a strong urge not to let them beat me, though I'm mostly not enjoying myself. Super Punch-Out did that to me recently. I stopped having fun around the World Championship, when I realized just how shallow and aggravating the gameplay really was, but I still wasted tons more time on it. Eventually I forced myself to move on, but I didn't feel like playing anything else for a week or so, because my mind kept telling I should go back and finish what I started. Abandoning a game partway through is tricky, though, because plenty of good games have weaker, and sometimes outright bad parts. So it's good to be able to persevere through those for a bit and see what happens, but I need to get better at letting go when it's just not worth it. Right now I feel that way about Dragon Saber, the PCE sequel to Dragon Spirit. There are things I don't like about it that have been bothering me a lot from the beginning, and the level I'm at currently is complete trash, but I'm still kind of into it...
