How about The Longest Journey? I had a friend obsessed with this game and it seemed cool but I couldn't get into it when I tried playing some years ago when GOG was new. I think I remember being frustrated that I couldn't get it to full screen though haha. I have another friend who likes the Dreamfall series. Maybe everything I know about is the Walmart of adventure games though.

Xeogred I tried playing The Longest Journey around the time it released. I only got about an hour into it before bailing. The beginning of the game is sooooo slow. You spend a lot of time having inane conversations that don't seem to have any point. Plus the first puzzle I came across was really dumb (had to do with a rubber ducky and a life ring IIRC). I was very unimpressed with the first hour and just uninstalled it. Years later I found out I'd apparently bailed on "the greatest adventure game of all time". So I guess it gets better? Maybe nowadays I'd like it, I don't know. You would probably like some of Wadjet Eye Games' releases. We'd need to go to the modern section to talk about those though. In the past decade a high amount of quality adventure games have been released, due to crowdfunded indie backing.
