Wish I could play my 3DS in bed. It's an instant recipe for my neck, shoulders, and elbows feeling like fire. No matter how I try to setup some pillows/blankets for support. Gotta love having an effed up C4-C5! Maybe one of those huge wedge pillows that look like a giant Mario block thing could do the trick though.

Still playing Ys8. Got 55 hours invested, about 95% done with the main campaign now. Should be beating this one soon, but I also intend to do the post-game dungeon. Love this JRPG for sure... will be kinda sad to have to say goodbye to its world and characters, but my giant backlog library ain't gonna beat itself. The wheel must grind onward.

Thinking we got a rare 9/10 coming here from Ex.

Sounds like it. Always glad when our opinions align on games.

Thinking we got a rare 9/10 coming here from Ex. Sounds like it. Always glad when our opinions align on games. Spoiler alert Ys8 is getting a 9/10 from me. It's simply fantastic.
Last night I finally got 100% completion rate on treasure chests (meaning I've found every chest in the game) and 100% completion rate on exploration (meaning I've mapped the entire game world/dungeons). All I've got left now is to finish a sidequest, then I'm going to beat the main game proper. I've completed about 95% of the sidequests in this game, because the sidequests are actually worth doing (unlike most JRPG's I've played lately). I still intend to do the post-game dungeon as well, before I consider Ys8 well and truly beaten. But I've done just about every optional thing this game will let you do, other than all the raids/hunts. I don't care for the raids (tower defense is not my genre) and the hunts are monotonous. As a result I've only done the raids/hunts that are required by the main campaign. Every other optional thing though, I've done. After I finish Ys8, I'll be focusing on some smaller, shorter Club Retro stuff for a bit.

Woot! Yeah, it overcame that slow start and became my favorite of the series, and a lot of the other games aren't exactly slouches!

I have been thinking, towards the end of Ys8, "How in the world could Falcom have topped Ys8 with Ys9?!" I'm guessing the answer is they likely didn't. Don't know about Nordics yet, but it looks closer to Ys8 than Ys9 does.

Yeah, I don't think they did... but it's still a darn fine game. I think I gave it an 8.5/10 - still a fantastic time.
Speaking of Nordics, I should probably pre-order that. I don't want to go through the whole rigmarole I did last time trying to score a copy of Ys IX.

So it begins. Yep, this game seems freaking good so far. The music is just kind of all over but in a good way. Like it has me thinking of Mega Man, Xenoblade, Chrono Cross... all in one haha, can't complain. The charm and aesthetic reminds me very much of modern Zelda's and DQ8/11, which is a plus to me. Dual audio on PC so I switched to Japanese right away. I think some PC ports of Falcom games were hit or miss for me customization wise, like the controls or options for menus, etc but I like everything about how this looks and plays down to the menus. The setting seems great and combat is awesome. I saw Ex say it was too easy on normal, so I picked hard. This can be changed at any point so if it's too crazy I can bump it down, but so far it seems well balanced. I just have Adol and Laxia so far.
Think this will be the first Y's I get truly hooked on and enjoy.

Man, the soundtrack for this game, especially some of the later tracks, is just absolute fire. Some absolute top-tier Falcom goodness. I thought the voice acting was just fine for the US release. Good, even. And y'all are both lucky to experience the cleaned up translation - I played through when the translation was... uh, less than optimal.
