All I can say is play DQ9 if you want single player DQ MMORPG. That particular combo...

This game is absolutely amazing. Cleared the second "dungeon" area which was an awesome big forest. Got my first "Gear" equipment to climb vines now. Have 8-9 people at the base. The steady flow of upgrades and all that is dopamine bliss. Hard is a pretty good challenge. I'm definitely losing a character at times, usually Adol haha. The party AI doesn't seem too great but I do appreciate that they don't take a lot of damage. So at this point getting to a boss, I realize after I take a few hits as someone it might be best to switch to another character, take a few more hits, etc then use a big full party heal to make the most of it. I kind of like playing as Adol the most so far yet I feel I do best with Laxia and her rapier style. I did the first raid. I think I'll do them all along the way because the ingredient/loot rewards seem crazy good. But yeah I can see how it wasn't something Ex wanted to 100%. I'm not sure if I will too, but I'll definitely do them along the way for now. This will be the first Y's game I beat. FULL STOP! I don't know if it can dethrone the legendary SMT4 for me this year, but this is already a slam dunk 9/10 for my tastes and hour by hour I can just tell it only gets better. You guys should have told me this is very much like Xenoblade exploration wise. I freaking love that!

Hard is a pretty good challenge Big bump from Normal then. I never got a single game over in Normal. >I kind of like playing as Adol the most so far I played as Adol until the other protagonist became available. It's no spoiler to say Dana is that other protagonist. I mean, she's right on the box cover with Adol. I liked playing as Dana more, and I used her as much as I could as my lead. My main team was all girls through most of the game, actually. No surprise there I guess. >I did the first raid / how it wasn't something Ex wanted to 100% There's quite a few that are mandatory to do. So once you get to the point where there's optional raids, you might be tired of them by then. That said, yes if you get S rank, you'll get loads of crafting rewards and elixirs and stuff. I always got S or A rank in the raids. >this is already a slam dunk 9/10 for my tastes And you haven't even seen anything yet. Ys8 will keep on surprising you all the way to the end. And don't slip on crafting. You will only get the best gear by crafting! I still gotta do the bonus post-game dungeon sometime soon. Also I want to say, I enjoyed the English dub in this one. It's actually a really well done dub.

The English dub was on by default when I started. It did seem good. But yeah anime = Japanese for me, so once I changed it probably not changing back haha.
I've definitely been crafting. It's interesting you can't even really sell stuff. But there's that bazaar/trading post for materials and stuff.
I bought one of Laxia's alternate outfits, which was just a color swap. Hopefully they're a little cooler than that. It seemed like my copy on Steam did come with some DLC, Adol's original outfit was in there. I'm rocking his second one though that looks cool.

Being castaways on an island, there's no monetary system, so yeah everything is crafting and trading based. I think you'll appreciate Dana's different outfits. Also, don't scrimp on fishing! Lots of benefits to fishing, some I can't talk about yet.

About 11 hours in and plan to play a little more Y's 8 today.
Did a night exploration in one area that was probably some of the toughest stuff so far on Hard. Had to use a lot of my healing items, what I cooked, etc, compared to the norm. There were giant seal enemies that I ended up just having to avoid, when I usually kill everything. Still got 100% in the map though and thankfully the boss was easy.
Now I have questions about some of the other modern Y's but I'm not going to ask them yet. I don't even want comparisons to be made, I love playing Y's 8 completely blind. The only thing I have looked up at this point so far is getting a more clear explanation of the side quest "Expiration" thing. So really just make sure to do them before me main story sections. Easy enough. I've been doing pretty much everything along the way. Already feel like I have 70% of the fish captured, so maybe things like that are pretty lenient and easy to 100%.
I have a fourth character now who's decent. Laxia is becoming my main right now though, love the speed and precision. The big guy is a fun character but annoying to use haha, hope there's a better Blunt/Heavy weapon character later, since that's needed for some enemies.
The camp continues to expand. Pretty much a fully fledged village right now. Most recently got some kid so I can start farming.
I feel like I've been craving such a game like this for freaking 10 years. Always thinking "Is there a modern Secret of Mana out there?" this is really pretty much that with a dose of Suikoden, Xenoblade, and Zelda. Freaking amazing game and special adventurous vibe you don't always get from other stuff. I even sometimes think of the Souls games. For as broken up as the map can be with some loading points and all, the exploration feels very vast and rewarding. It's the kind of experience I love in 3rd person games like this with such massive vistas in the background. And a testament to art direction, sure Y's 8 isn't technically anything too crazy, but the game looks gorgeous to me.

Been pretty obvious why Ex favored Protag #2 Dana. But I had no idea until now she rocks two enormous bizarre/scythe crazy swords that Dante from DMC would probably envy. I had a hunch she would be a traditional sword fighter or play somewhat like Adol. A body type doesn't fully win me over though, IT'S THE WEAPONS TOO. Yeah I'll be playing the heck out of her... someday. I do remember Ex saying it takes quite awhile to get there. At least I saw a sample for now haha.
Could really go for a vacation and binge the heck out of this game.

Yeah, the nice thing about Dana is that she can basically serve all the attack roles.

Already feel like I have 70% of the fish captured, so maybe things like that are pretty lenient and easy to 100%. At 11 hours in, even at Turbo Gamer speed, you don't have 70% of the fish captured yet, promise. >Freaking amazing game I wouldn't steer you wrong. >Y's 8 isn't technically anything too crazy, but the game looks gorgeous to me I agree. It was originally a Vita game, so was technically designed for PS2.5 power. But the supreme art direction carries it way beyond the technical limitations. >until now she rocks two enormous bizarre/scythe crazy swords And her weapon capabilities greatly expand. Which she needs due to a large portion of the game that uses her as the sole party member. I won't say more than that for fear of spoilers. But understand Dana was my favorite protag for more than just Simple Man™ reasons.
