They don't suck at all, they're really good. Well I understand that's your opinion. I put a few hours into the PCE-CD Ys4 ( Dawn of Ys)... yes it's a nice looking, nice sounding action-JRPG, but gameplay-wise Ys4 PCE-CD is a grindy shitfest that I dropped in disgust. Ys4 on PCE-CD is not "5 hours", it's actually 10-12 hours long, depending on the player's familiarity. I managed to beat the SFC Ys4 ( Mask of the Sun) merely because it's shorter (~8 hours long) but it was hardly a good game. The real Ys4, meaning the one that Falcom made themselves; Memories of Celceta, is light-years better than both the PCE-CD (Hudson Soft) and SFC (Tonkin House) excuses for Ys4. I'd recommend Celceta to you as homework but IIRC you hated Ys Seven, so unlikely you'd enjoy it.

Reason's Xeo has to play all the Y's games now:
1. The redemption arc 2. The OST's 3. Becoming the authority on HRG with how they rank!
But yeah, always looks like some varied opinions on them across the board.

Xeogred - How do you think Ys8 compares to XB3 so far?

I love everything about Ys8... but it's not even close for me. If that really says something about XB3 for me perhaps. This is the king maker difference between a stellar 9/10 and a 10/10 I guess. I may never put 180 straight hours into a videogame again like I did XB3. Maybe not until the next XB or Elden Ring 2. I still can't believe I did everything in a game like XB3, outside of maxing out some gems and filling out an Enemy Skill styled thing that would have taken awhile. But yeah I 99%'d XB3 and loved every second of it. The sci-fi elements to Xeno games are always a secret sauce for me. Better writing/characters/music too overall. Gameplay wise I could see how some might prefer Ys8's real time action though. But XB3's combat system is one of the best things ever designed for me. Dopamine overdrive. But yeah, love Ys8 and it really put SMT Strange Journey on the back burner. Which I think I have about 40 hours on. I still want to beat it, going to try and play some tonight maybe. For 2024 it will be hard to beat SMT4 and Ys8 for me. Shadow of the Erdtree is coming for them!

XB3's combat system is one of the best things ever designed for me. By the time I get that far, it'll be interesting to see how evolved XB's combat system is by then. I've only beaten the original XB1, and there were things I liked about it, but its combat system wasn't one of them.

I think it's a bit better in ways, but I still don't think it's amazing. It really does come down to how much you enjoy MMORPG-style combat. Some do it better than others. I think Torna did a good job with its combat, XB3 is solid as well, but I still think enemies are too spongey overall.

I think I've said it a thousand times on the board now, I can't emphasis enough how much better the combat gets from XBX/XB2 and on. There's rhythmic combos (which I don't think exist in MMO's) and the whole process of Breaking, Launching, Topple, etc is way more engaging than it ever was in XB1. XB2 has the Blades system which lends itself to a lot of variety, XB3 has a Job/Class system for some cool synergy setups. I don't like the cooldown bar in XB1/XBX, but at least XBX just "felt" way better to me combat wise. Then it's pretty glorious using the mecha (just gotta wait 30 hours to get them lol).

Re: Final Fantasy XII
I was talking about in another thread how I purchased FF12 on Switch but regretted not getting it on PS4. Just because it feels more like a Playstation game to me, and no other reason. And it would also be nice for me to get more use out of my PS4 since it's so neglected. My Switch copy was still sealed, so I've been thinking about trading it for the PS4 version.
I found in some internet searches that the Switch version has some benefits over PS4. I found someone say on some forum that the PS4 uses "the terrible PS4's default save system" which I assume means is that profile based saving. If it's similar to how it worked on PS3, yeah, I'm really not a fan of that. The Switch version has save slots, like how the game originally did on PS2. I much prefer that. Also, apparently the Switch version allows you to change job classes whereas the PS4 version does not. I have no opinion there since it's been many years since I've played the game. But after reading these two things, I decided to just keep it for the Switch.

But after reading these two things, I decided to just keep it for the Switch. Is the Switch version 60FPS though? I don't recall any saving issues with the PS4 remaster. Also with the Job Classes, does that mean you can change them mid game? That would be different. But the PS4 remaster is based off the International version which lets you pick Jobs for the characters, which designates the layout of their License Board. This wasn't in the US original on PS2. I don't recall being able to switch the Jobs after you pick them though, in the PS4 version.
FFX remaster also has an international version and that's how I went through that one. It has a different Sphere Grid and is more customizable. But you can mess up some characters, the blue furball guy I made pretty bad by accident making him a jack of all trades. On the flipside I was able to make Yuna a hybrid White/Black mage, which was amazing since her Magic stats are the highest in the game. She hit even harder than Lulu.
FFX PS3's remaster only has the new OST, which is hit or miss on some tracks. FFX PS4 let's you change the OST.
Definitely some odd differences between these versions, so it wouldn't surprise me if FF12 on Switch is a bit different. lol
