Glad I didn't buy the $69.99 beta after all.
My boy Capcom losing some brownie points here from me. Better shine up that throne for FromSoftware...

I honestly can't give them a hard time - while they didn't do the DLC thing, From Software absolutely released Elden Ring in a less-than-optimal state as well.

There was some hitching but it was playable and fine for 170 hours at launch. Source: I played it at launch on PC. Dragon's Dogma 2 is crawling itself up to "Mixed" on Steam after being a blistering Mostly Negative review average. Elden Ring wasn't what you'd call a botch like this, or other infamous examples like Last of Us Remake on PC, Arkham Knight, Jedi Survivor, that still haven't recovered and probably lost thousands of potential buyers. I bet DD2 has people, like me, staying at bay from buying it anytime soon for these reasons too. Not the case with Elden Ring.
I just skimmed IGN's performance video of DD2 earlier today, even on PS5 this game looks pretty unacceptable across the board performance wise.
Needed another year to cook probably.

I believe DD2 will eventually be patched up enough to be a good game, but it's clear Capcom rushed it out the gate too early. It's a shame they did so (obviously for monetary reasons).

Dang shareholders!
I hate hearing rumors that RE9 could be open world now that they're doing this stuff with the RE Engine. Who wants that?
But hopefully they work out the kinks and the next Monster Hunter is a smooth release. Pretty sure they're moving to RE Engine for it and it'll be an even bigger launch than DD2, Monster Hunter being their King bread winner now...

So here's the thing - what's apparently going on is that the game is very CPU-heavy. They're apparently doing a lot with NPCs/environments that are chewing through resources, and according to DF, the PS5/XSX are actually pretty CPU-limited compared to the architectures immediately after them. Did they optimize poorly? Probably. And yeah, it's near the end of Capcom's fiscal year, and they probably wanted it out to buoy that. But devs are still finding limitations in current-gen systems.
Speaking of which, the PS5 Pro increasingly seems to be real, and DF covered the spec leaks. And... it's not a huge uplift. Barely any CPU improvement, most of the improvements are to improve raytracing (more CUs) and something with AI upscaling along the lines of DLSS. It's still a system I'll probably target since I don't have a PS5 yet, but it also doesn't sound like a game changer if you already have one.

That's what I'm hearing too, perhaps the Pawn system specifically, that's really CPU heavy. I have a fancy GPU that might not save me on this one. I have a Ryzen 7 3800x in my main gaming PC which isn't a pushover, but yeah might not be rocking DD2 too smoothly until they work out some kinks. Frankly I find it embarrassing that the 9th gen still hasn't made 60FPS/1080p the default required standard. Devs went too hard on fidelity and we're suffering for it on the performance end in the long haul. I'll be more excited for Switch 2 news. Even if it just gets Nintendo to base PS4 levels of power, that'll be exciting for them.

Yeah, that's a Zen 2 chip you've got, which is also what the PS5 has, although I think yours will be a bit beefier.
I understand why they're pushing for more fidelity, but I agree, performance should be more of a focus. And I do think in a lot of ways, this generation is better as far as framerate stability goes. I can't help but think of how chunky the 360/PS3 generation got. We're in full-on diminishing returns territory, so stable resolutions/framerates would be way nicer.
And yes, base-level PS4 would be good for Switch 2, although I'm expecting something quite a bit better because it will have more modern GPU features than the PS4. Lower power budget, of course, but I think overall it's going to be something of a PS4 Pro situation, which isn't shabby at all in a handheld. I have no idea if it will outclass the Steam Deck, but I'm guessing it will, or at least be roughly equivalent.

embarrassing the 9th gen still hasn't made 60FPS/1080p the default We're in full-on diminishing returns territory Strongly agreed. Just another reason I don't care about PS5/XSX. Surprisingly enough... myself as well. I've sworn off buying any new games post-8th gen until 2030. But if anyone can screw me up on that it'd be Nintendo. Not for the newest Zario either... the surprises I'm talking about. I mean, Nintendo published a remaster of the Another Code games and a new Endless Ocean is coming. Absolutely did not expect surprises of that caliber from a Nintendo platform nowadays. Not to mention Switch is the original development platform for the Front Mission 2 remake; THE reason I originally bought a Switch. So it's likely the Switch 2 will have a new F-Zero, Hotel Dusk remasters, King's Field V, Vanquish 2, Demon's Crest II... stuff that will annihilate my post-8th gen resolve. Well I'll allow it as long as Switch 2 is backwards compatible with Switch 1 carts.

I am excited about getting a PS5/Pro... for enhanced PS4 performance. Demon's Crest II? Yes please.
