Wing Commander and MechWarrior became my two favorites but but I ran the full gamut of popular games of the time and plenty of obscure ones. I own all the Wing Commander games, and yet have never beaten any of them. That is sad. I did spent quite a while with Prophecy when it came out. As for MechWarrior. I haven't played the original. I tried to play MechWarrior 2 when it released, but alas my 486 33hz couldn't run it very well. I ended up beating MechWarrior 2 on PS1, which was more of an arcade spin on the real game. I did however beat MechWarrior 3, and loved it. Awesome game. It's a damn shame it won't run properly on modern systems, I wish GOG would figure out a way to make it happen. I haven't played through any of the MechWarrior 4 stuff yet, despite owning all that forever. What did you think of MechWarrior 4?

MechWarrior 4 is more streamlined but still pretty fun. I liked MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries a lot better which isn't surprising because MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries is my favorite of the series.
I wish GOG would get any of the MechWarrior games really. I assume there's tangled up rights issues regarding them. It's a shame there's no modern re-releases of what was one of the biggest PC franchises of its time.

Did you ever mess with any of the MechCommander games, any opinions there?

I'll ask my brother about MechCommander when I get a chance, but I remember him not enjoying them.

Did you ever mess with any of the MechCommander games, any opinions there? They're not really my thing but I had friends who were into them. I think they've both been legitimately released as freeware.

I think they've both been legitimately released as freeware. Now that's some good news! I'm going to look into that right now. A couple days ago, I got copies of these: Oldies, but maybe goodies? Unfortunately they didn't come with manuals. I'm sure I can find PDFs on the 'net somewhere.

I don't really understand what's going on in this picture, but as a kid that would have been horrifying.

I don't really understand what's going on in this picture, but as a kid that would have been horrifying. I'm almost 28 and I'm pretty unnerved. It's got an almost David Lynch feel to it. When I played this game as a kid, some of this stuff did genuinely kind of freak me out too actually. So this guy is a wolf in sheep's clothing, as the scriptures say. The gameplay mostly consisted of running around through a maze to collect Bible verses in order to defeat individual bad guys. Those screens are from the first "boss fight" in which you are posed a series of ideas that you have to refute using scripture. In fact, you literally use the verse about a wolf in sheep's clothing in order to get that second screen. What's especially unnerving is that after he's exposed there's an additional verse you need to have found in order to convince her that just because this guy's evil doesn't mean that all of Christianity is a lie. When I first played this game, I didn't know that I hadn't collected all the verses so I tried again and again and failed repeatedly. Every time you lose you get kicked out of the room and it resets. So very young me watching this woman relive this traumatic experience over and over and felt pretty hopeless for a few weeks.
