Switch-tax remains in effect. How about when you see the physical version of a game being sold much less expensive than the digital version. Imagine being naive enough to pay extra just for immediate gratification and zero ownership.

Switch is almost up to 140M systems sold. It's closing in on the DS and PS2 - absolutely nuts.

Based. Great system. My third favorite Nintendo console after SNES and NES.

I read a report earlier today that said, the Switch is now the best selling video game device of all time in Japan, and has sold the most software of all time in Japan. I don't have time to confirm that right now, but if true, it's quite the accomplishment for Nintendo. Iwata would be proud.

The bets are already on that Nintendo's next system won't do this well, which has some folks upset. But... I mean, this is a historic run, betting the under is the smart move.
This also makes what the PS2 (and DS) did that much more impressive, though - there's even more gamers and more world population right now, and it did those numbers.

Looking at Nintendo's console/handheld sales on generations, it tends to be like a sine wave IIRC.
If all Nintendo does is just put out a graphically more powerful Switch sequel, then no they won't make the same sales. The Switch 2 will need to maintain retro-functionality with the original Switch, also up the graphical power, remain an affordable system, and yet still bring new functionality ideas to the table to up the ante. It's a tough spot to be in for Nintendo with the Switch successor. Who knows with today's modern gaming demographic; maybe a Switch 2 that simply doubles the graphical power is all Nintendo needs to maintain momentum. That and their juggernaut IPs of course.

I'm not sure they truly need something game-changing - I do think they can mostly run it back and achieve significant success. Just having something PS4-level on the go with a more modern GPU feature set will I suspect sell very well. But they'd have to bottle some lightning to hit current Switch numbers, and I'm not sure what that's going to be. I'm pretty sure they'll trot something else out to make it different, it's just a question of whether they hit the mark and it's truly ground-breaking, or just a novelty.
