August's theme is "Westerns". This is meant to encapsulate any 10+ year old game that has a "wild west" theme. Whether it be the romanticized cowboys and shootouts stuff, or the more realistic frontier survival and gold mining. In general, the wild west as we know it existed between 1848 to 1890, located in the USA's western regions. Games that thematically occur in that place and era, are what this theme's about. Though not to the extent of excluding western games with fantastical elements of course.

For people who still want to bring a katana to a gunfight: For people who want to shoot at undead bad hombres:

Yes western themed games for this thread don't need to adhere to strict reality. Wild Arms 3 or Wild Guns would fit fine, for example. I didn't expect @tsumuri to drop a western film reference though. So here's Ex's top 5 favorite western films to watch and getcha in the spirit:

Just gonna take this opportunity to post Rising Zan's badass intro/theme song.
Also, play Sunset Riders.

This was fun to skim through, mostly retro. The FMV arcade shooters look hilarious.

Another Western-themed game I hope people will play:
Heated Barrel, an arcade shooter that's somewhat akin to a top-down Sunset Riders from the makers of Cabal. The final boss is bullshit, but everything else is nice.

Speaking of bringing katanas to gunfights, there's also this one: And it's just barely compliant!

It blew my mind when I realized that Red Dead Redemption is already a decade old. Slow down time! Gyaddang. So that being said, I will wholeheartedly say that RDR is the greatest western game I've ever beaten.

By some miracle, I have once again gotten my stalled playthrough of Wild Arms: Alter Code F going again. Like, guys, I bought this game back in 2003. Geez. My current save now has a nice figure of 25 hours onto it. Who knows, maybe I'll stick with it and finally, finally erase that 20+ hour mark of shame from my backlog.

SargeI think if you pick up and finish a save from 17 years ago, that'd set a new record around here. Go for it! I've got a bevy of retro western video games picked out myself. I plan to finish the really short and simple ones first.
