Wow, 209 games beat... you completely demolished my measly 61 games beat this year. Granted, a huge chunk of my time was spent on one game ( New Vegas). Looks like you are averaging about 2 hours of gaming a day, not too shabby. And interestingly enough, it appears you spent less time gaming this year compared to last, despite being at home more. Anyway, cool breakdown man. Can definitely tell you work with data.

I kinda half-arsed it, but I was definitely curious as to whether I dramatically exceeded last year. I think I knocked out a lot of languishing games last year, too, but I did the same this year as well. I figure they're about the same on average, though. Two hours seems pretty reasonable as an average, though - no more than watching a movie in the evening or something. Wonder what your hour total was? New Vegas indeed was a huge chunk, and I didn't really have anything close to that kind of time sink this year. I did finish off Tales of Graces f, Wild ARMs: Alter Code F, and Lunar: Silver Star Harmony, but a huge chunk of those games were taken out in prior years! That's over 100 hours right there, of which I'd wager maybe a third was in this year. Oh, right, I can check out your HLTB profile. Also, friend request incoming there. You're much better keeping that updated than I am, though. Looks like you have around 315 hours if my math is right. But you do a ton of other stuff as well, especially analog gaming.

But you do a ton of other stuff as well, especially analog gaming. Yeah I've been logging stuff into HLTB since 2013, though I didn't start holistically doing it until 2014. Here's my per year gaming ratio since starting: 2016 and 2017 were banner years, apparently. As for 2020: I did about ~315 hours of video gaming this year (I agree with your math). But I probably did at least 100 hours of analog gaming also, if not more. Edit: That "Unique 20" label means I entered twenty new games into HLTB's database in 2020.

I really, really should try logging my stuff there this year. I usually feel bad about doing so in a lot of instances, though, as I don't always keep perfect tabs of how long it took me to finish a game. I very much ball-parked shorter games - those half-hour estimates are close, but definitely not exact.
I have zero, zero intention of doing this next year. At a couple of points this year, I observed I was on this pace, and it definitely influenced my choices at times on what I played. I think the Game Gear month in particular really put me in a spot to tear a bunch down, as did anything involving arcade games.

But generally you will have a fair idea how long you've been playing a game, methinks.

True. I'll start logging it over there from here on out. Might even try to backfill some.
Oh, another (marginally) interesting stat:
Average score: 7.02 Median score: 7
Best games (10/10): Mega Man 2, Jackal (honestly, the difference between a 10 and 9.5 is negligible, I could put more here) Worst games (3/10): Griffin, Rival Turf! (yes, RT is as bad as everyone says it is)
Yep, checks out. That means a pretty good gaming year, honestly! 7/10 = good.

That's pretty wild Sarge . Love all the data too.
You can poke around my HLTB too if you want. I started logging things religiously there around 2016 myself. I think this year, I was able to load up a bunch of old PSX games from my memory cards I handled graciously over the years and transferred to the PS3, so it was really cool getting all that data on there. Too bad most games back then don't have dates though, I'm always curious about that. But some games I busted out did, like PS3 save files, I think Xenoblade on the Wii, etc. I didn't do all this at once, but it's been fun to slowly add things in there from my past, when I can try to be mostly accurate. Another trick is to see if a trophy/achievement has a date stamp, this has helped with some Steam entries for me sometimes. It has an estimate of your played time running the software itself, but if you find that "Beat the game" trophy then it helps confirm the total time for me. Some entries are a wash for me though, like I played through Dishonored twice, add in the DLC, etc, there's no way I can work with that play time number. Sometimes I think if I replay a game I couldn't log accurately from Steam, I'll just subtract the old total time from whatever I tack onto it for a replay, lol.
Nowadays kind of since HRG's time, when I emulate stuff without timers I'll manually keep a log in a notepad file. It bugged me tremendously that DQ1-3 on SNES don't keep track.
When it comes to some long games, old and new, I don't always put in that effort though. Especially with new games. So my HLTB record will never be 100% definite. My Backloggery has more and games I can't or don't bother getting player time on, but I also can't chronicle my entire gaming history from my childhood either. A lot of my early Backloggery entries was some guesswork... but yeah, I've been on there since 2008. Wow.
I've been keeping personal notepad files since 2011 though. Guess I'll jot down my totals:
2011 - 37 2012 - 27 2013 - 51 2014 - 65 2015 - 53 2016 - 67 2017 - 101 2018 - 102 2019 - 62 2020 - 63
Kind of eerie how there's a strong median around that ~60 range. 2017 is surprising since that was a HUGE modern gaming year for me. I suspect in 2011-2012 I was busy watching a lot more anime at that time.
Hitting 100 felt wild those two years so I don't think I could ever dream of doubling that, unless I only played 90% retro games and lots of short stuff. But you all know I'm one that tends to generally have a hand in both retro and modern gaming consistently throughout the years. And those modern games are usually long as heck thesedays.

I'll make sure to add you too, Xeogred . Looks like we're in a similar time frame for hours invested this year based on your profile. Like I said before, I won't be shooting for 200 again. Some themes put me on that track, but this year, I'm going to just play exactly what I feel like playing, with no arbitrary goals in mind other than to enjoy what I'm playing, no matter the length. That won't guarantee I'll enjoy what I play, of course - I play some stinkers every year - but even then, I'll wring something out of it. This was easily one of my most retro-heavy years. Not that I didn't have new games I could have played, but for whatever reason, I just didn't feel like playing them.

New games are often massive time sinks as well, so there's that.
